The European Masters of Poker grand final gets underway in Vittoriosa in Malta today (Sept. 23) where it will stay for four days. Up to 500 players will sit down to a starting stack of 15,000 in chips rather than the usual 10,000 for the €1,500 + €150 buy-in finale.
Barcelona, the penultimate stop, was the biggest of the tour so far with 399 players and a first place prize of €55,502. Anton Wigg topped the field, taking home the title and top prize.
The leader board competition running alongside the events makes it all that bit more exciting with five percent taken from every tournaments’ prize pool, and split between the top 15 players after all five tournaments are completed. First place is estimated to be €25,000, plus a watch worth €10,000 if he/she has earned 25,000 VIP points between Jan. 1, 2009 and the start of the final event.
