The Rio hosts the World Series of Poker.Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment announced last week that it was extending its contract with IMG Sports & Entertainment an additional four years for the global representation of the World Series of Poker brand and property.

IMG will be responsible for expanding the brand internationally, with regards to sponsorship, event management, licensing, and television distribution.

IMG has worked with the WSOP since 2005, helping to land a number of corporate sponsors that ESPN viewers are no doubt familiar with — Jack Link’s, Planters, and Hershey’s.

“We are looking to emphasize the ‘World’ in World Series of Poker as our vision of the brand extends beyond the annual events in Las Vegas and London,” said Mitch Garber, the CEO of Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment. “By tapping the global reach and expertise of IMG, we are confident that together we can take the brand to new levels on the international stage through new international bracelet events and other WSOP licensed poker events.”

The first WSOP bracelet event held outside of Las Vegas occurred in 2007, in the inaugural World Series of Poker Europe. But if Garber’s statement is any indication, there will likely be several more in the years ahead.

“The World Series of Poker is an impressive property that we believe is well positioned to expand successfully into international markets, given the increased activity in the online and offline poker business in key international markets,” said David Abrutyn, the senior vice president and the global managing director for IMG Consulting.

IMG operates in approximately 30 countries, while the most recent WSOP welcomed citizens of 115 different nations.
