Canadian billionaire, entrepreneur, performer, and poker player, Guy Laliberte is used to heights from performing with his company Cirque de Soleil. He is also used to the rush of adrenalin which comes from playing the highest stakes and the biggest pots at the poker table.
However, nothing in his past could compare to the recent 10 days he experienced in outer space.
Laliberté arrived back from the International Space Station as the seventh private individual to have made the trip.
According to BBC news, Laliberte boarded the Soyuz craft at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Sept. 30, after reportedly paying $35 million for his seat.
He told the world that he was on a Poetical Social Mission and he was going to lead a performance from space which would involve 14 countries and many celebrities and artists. The effort was to make people aware of the water shortages throughout earth.
The show went ahead as planned on Oct. 9 and was broadcast on the site of the water charity founded by Laliberté, OneDrop.org.
The two-hour show called Moving Stars and Earth for Water saw former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, Salma Hayek, Matthew McConaughey, Shakira, Peter Gabriel, U2 and the late Steve Irwin’s daughter, Bindi, among many others, taking part.
