Eric Baldwin Increases his POY Lead
Card Player Player of the Year leader Eric Baldwin has scored POY points on 12 different occasions in 2009 to build up his point-leading total of 5,788. Baldwin took the lead from Yevgeniy Timoshenko two weeks ago, and this last week he increased that lead by scoring points twice at the Caesars Palace Classic. He won the $300 no-limit hold’em turbo tournament to take home $10,686 and 120 points. Four days later he made another final table, cashing in sixth place in a $300 no-limit hold’em tournament to take home $2,590 and 72 points.
Other players who booked large POY winnings this past week were the champions at the World Poker Tour main event in Marrakech and the PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour main event in Auckland, New Zealand. Christophe Savary topped a field of 416 players in Marrakech to win €377,262 and 1,920 points. Simon Watt was the champion in Auckland, besting a field of 263 players to capture $158,255 and 624 points.
