Players in the Southern California area will soon get the chance to take on — and take out — Celebrity Apprentice star and WSOP gold-bracelet winner Annie Duke.
Duke has confirmed that she will be at the Pala Casino Spa and Resort on Jan. 30 for the $25,000 Annie Duke Free Roll Poker Tournament, wherein players at the Northern San Diego County casino will be able to play against her for a chance to win thousands of dollars.
“We opened our new 15-table poker room in June, and play has been growing on a weekly basis,” said Bill Bembenek, the CEO of Pala. “Everyone is really excited that Annie Duke will be here to host and play in our first major event.”
Players will not be able to buy their way into the exclusive event, where $25,000 will be distributed to the top 10 players in the field. Instead, they must earn their way into the freeroll by logging hours with their Pala Privileges card.
The first 117 players who play 100 hours in the poker room from Nov. 16-Jan. 27 will win an entry into the freeroll, wherein the winner will receive a nice hefty chunk of cash — to the tune of $8,000.
Although the top 10 finishers will receive some kind of payday — ranging from the $8,000 first-place prize and the $4,900 second-place prize down to the $500 10th-place prize — whoever knocks Duke out of the competition will receive an additional $1,000.
Duke, who won her WSOP bracelet in 2004, will arrive at the casino by 9 a.m. to meet casino guests, sign autographs, and take pictures. The tournament will begin at 10:30 a.m., and the public will have a chance to talk to her after the event, as well.
Even if you don’t qualify for the exclusive poker tournament, Pala will be hosting a variety of lucrative promotions that weekend that will no doubt attract players. From Jan. 30 at 3 p.m. to Jan. 31 at 8 a.m., one player per hour will randomly be selected to win $300. Also, the first 200 players who play live poker on Jan. 30 will be awarded a free T-shirt, courtesy of the Pala poker room.
