Perhaps it’s fitting that on the day that Mike Sexton is inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame, a poker player sits down at the World Series of Poker final table with a mainstream sponsor’s logo on his chest.
Sexton always dreamed about the possibility of poker players to get mainstream sponsors, and in fact he may have been the very first player to ever sport a sponsor’s logo, when he did it for the clothing line La Mode in the early ‘90s.
Today, Steven Begleiter has shown up with an additional logo on his shirt to go along with his Full Tilt patch. No, it’s not for Budweiser or McDonald’s. But it is for a company and a product that is completely unrelated to poker.
Begleiter, the former Bear Stearns executive, is wearing a patch advertising AMC’s new miniseries, The Prisoner. The show, which will run three straight nights at 8 p.m. on Nov. 15-17, is a reinterpretation of a 1960s sci-fi series.
AMC (American Movies Classic) is a cable TV network that has traditional shown old American films, as its names suggests, but it has begun showing more original entertainment in recent years, such as the critically acclaimed TV show Mad Men.
There is no word yet on the specifics of the terms of Begleiter’s AMC deal.
