Already sporting a sizable lead in the 2009 Card Player Online Player of the Year race, Steve “gboro780” Gross went ahead and gave himself more of a cushion anyway this Sunday with a third-place finish in the PokerStars $200 rebuy. The score added an additional $20,407 to his bankroll, bringing his year-to-date winnings to an astounding $1,180,760.
With more than 1,200 points to make up and just four weeks remaining, it is looking more and more difficult for second-place resident David “Sir Sands” Sands to catch up. Right on his heels is Thayer “THAY3R” Rasmussen, who recently took the third-place spot from the semi-retired Shaun “TedsFishFry” Deeb. Rasmussen helped his cause with a second-place finish in the $100 rebuy on Full Tilt, where he pocketed $18,832.
Fifth-place belongs to Jeremiah “Believer82” Vinsant (pictured above left), who had a strong Sunday Mulligan performance, picking up 600 points and $36,148 for his runner-up effort. The cash put Vinsant over the $2 million mark for lifetime winnings, most of which have come online.
Nicholas “GripDsNutz” Grippo (pictured right) is back in ninth place thanks to a stellar week that saw three final tables, including a runner-up finish in the $100 rebuy. His OPOY-qualifying cashes added up to roughly $30,000 and 340 points. Daniel “djk123” Kelly bumped Gregory “gregior” Howard from the 10th-place spot thanks to a second-place showing in the $100 rebuy on Full Tilt.
The rest of the top 10 is rounded out by Jonathan “shipitobv” Delong (sixth), Chris “Moorman1” Moorman (seventh), and Joseph “hoodini10” Udine (eighth).
