Atlantis Resort -- Photo Courtesy of PokerStarsThe New Year in poker always begins quickly thanks to a couple of large events. First and foremost there is the European Poker Tour PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (Jan. 4-14) in the Bahamas (pictured right), and that is followed by the Aussie Millions (Jan. 14-31) in Melbourne, Australia. Those two tournament series dominate the calendar in January, and the tournament poker community flocks to these events from all over the world after a prolonged holiday vacation. After a few weeks off, everyone is itching to get back into action.

Other major events that will take place in January include the first World Poker Tour stop of 2010 in Biloxi, Mississippi — the Southern Poker Championship. The EPT will follow up the PCA with EPT Deauville later in the month, and the first World Series of Poker Circuit stop of the New Year will begin in Tunica on Jan. 20.

The Heartland Poker Tour will also begin its new season in January, with a main event in Las Vegas at Red Rock Casino on Jan. 16. Two other tournament series will get their start in January and spill over into February. The Borgata Winter Open begins on Jan. 20 in Atlantic City, and the L.A. Poker Classic begins on Jan. 21 at Commerce Casino.
