Bill EdlerThe first World Poker Tour event of 2010 begins this weekend at the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. The $10,000 no-limit hold’em WPT championship event will began at noon CST on Sunday, Jan. 24, and it will crown a champion on Wednesday, Jan. 27. This is the third time that the WPT has hosted an event in Biloxi. Last year, Allen Carter topped a field of 283 players to take home $1 million. The first time the WPT came to Biloxi the event was called the Gulf Coast Poker Championship, and it was won by Bill Edler (pictured right), who took home $747,615 in prize money. Edler made the greatest comeback in WPT history at the event, claiming the win after he held just two 1,000 chips with 17 players remaining.

Card Player will feature daily reports for this event. Players will begin with 30,000 in tournament chips in the championship event and blinds will begin at 50-100. Levels will be 90 minutes long and there will be a 10-minute break at the end of each level.
