Peter Murphy's Multiplier Challenge x2Towards the end of 2009 Peter Murphy started the Multiplier Challenge x2 – an attempt to turn $1,000 into $40,000 at Boylepoker.com in just 11 weeks.

It was the second time he’d tried the feat, having successfully turned $100 into $10,000 earlier in the year.

However the second challenge, proved a rollercoaster ride that fell frustratingly short for the player.

“With a week to go I had over $35,000 and was well on target,” said a Murphy, “and then a few things went wrong in the last week. Firstly, I went on a $6,000 downswing in two days and this really set me back. After clawing a few thousand back the next day, I then ended up in bed for a few days and was unable to play.”

The challenge did bring its own rewards for Murphy, not least of all the $30,000 boost to his bankroll. “Overall I am pretty happy with what I achieved,” he said. “Although if I had run a little better in the last week, I could have easily made it. Even playing a decent amount in the first month or so would have helped as well.

“I am a little disappointed, but I did finish with $30,000 in the account and considering the amount of time I played, I would say it was a decent hourly rate at the tables. So it has to go down as a success for me.”
