Following a government decision, the Finnish Slot Machine Association (RAY) got the green light to begin offering online poker and casino games. RAY’s gaming operations raises funds to support voluntary health and welfare organisations, and so previously had the exclusive right in Finland to operate slot machines, casino table games, and a casino.
According to Janne Peräkylä, Executive Director of gaming operations, the project to move online was begun last year and is now progressing with the state’s wishes. Now that the government has validated the change made to RAY’s gaming license, it hopes to hit computer screens in August this year.
This move has been made in light of the fact that Finns spend more than 100 million euro on games provided by foreign gaming operators, with half of that spent on poker.
RAY’s online poker and casino services will be strictly supervised and regulated. Players will not be allowed to play on credit and Ray will have to verify the address and identity of each of its players, with the age requirement set at 18.
According to YLE.fi, Ray will withhold the right to cap its users’ bets and also be able to set limits on certain players.
The Finnish news site also says that the Association anticipates this move will create an income of around 25 million euro per year.
