WSOP Circuit -- Tunica Championship Event Begins

The Final Table Will Crown a Champion on Wednesday

David JohnsonThe $5,000 no-limit hold’em championship at the World Series of Poker Circuit stop in Tunica, Mississippi, began today. The championship event comes at the tail end of a tournament series that featured 18 preliminary events. (Check out the results below.) All of the preliminary events spread no-limit hold’em at various buy-ins.

The ladies no-limit hold’em event was won by Donna Jetter, and Rogers Patterson won the seniors no-limit hold’em title. The largest preliminary event was a $300 no-limit hold’em event that began on Saturday, Jan. 23. The tournament attracted 800 players, and it was won by David Johnson (pictured right), who took home $47,321 in prize money.

Players began with 15,000 in chips in the championship event, and blinds began at 25-25. Levels will be 50 minutes long at the start of the event and 90 minutes long at the final table. All tournament days will begin at noon. The championship event attracted a field of 96 players and the total prize pool was $449,750. Notable professionals that are playing in the event include Tommy Vedes, Paul Wasicka, Dwyte Pilgrim, Allen Kessler, Matt Stout, and Gavin Smith.
