PlaytechGaming software developer, Playtech, has announced its full year results for the year ending 31 Dec. 2009, which see a positive outcome for poker overall.

Poker revenues increased by 12 percent from €30.1 million in 2008 to €33.8 million in 2009. This growth is said to be largely due to the success of Playtech’s Italian poker network, which grew in 2009 to six licensees, representing 16 percent of the Italian market.

Playtech took a 29 percent interest in the William Hill Online (WHO) business in return for a contribution of assets at the end of 2008. In its first full year contribution, net revenue from poker declined 14 percent, but the company say this partly reflects “some player attrition as migration onto an integrated site took place”.

Playtech’s investment in WHO makes comparison of previous financial results less straightforward. However, total revenues for 2009 were up 3 percent to €114.8 million from €111.5 million in 2008, while total revenues excluding revenues from WHO for 2009 were up 8.4 percent to €103.5 million from €95.5 million in 2008. Excluding WHO, poker revenues were also up for 2009 by 14.9 percent to €31.7 million from €27.6 million in 2008.

Enhancements to its poker software were introduced at the end of 2009 to strengthen its appeal. This saw improvements made to the look and feel of the lobby, plus a multi-currency capability.
