ANZPT -- Perth Main Event Will Award $500,000 in Prize Money

First Major Poker Tournament on the West Coast of Australia Attracts 222 Players

Grant LevyThe first day of play has come to a close at the PokerStars Australia New Zealand Poker Tour $2,500 no-limit hold’em main event, and the two day-one flights have attracted a field of 222 players. The total prize pool for the event stands at $510,600, which makes for a strong showing at the first major poker tournament held on the west coast of the Australian continent.

Twenty-five of the players made the trip down under from abroad and a total of 15 countries are represented in the event. There were 16 players in the field that won their seats online through PokerStars online qualifiers. The top 24 players will all walk away with prize money. Here is a look at the full payout structure:

There are a total of 112 players that will return for day 2 of the tournament and they will battle during the next two days to make the final table of nine on Sunday, March 21. Check back at CardPlayer.com at the end of the tournament for a recap of the final table.

Pacing the field at the end of both day-one flights is Nik Lakovic with 104,625. Close behind him is the chip leader from day 1B, Yu-Chang Cheng, who also performed well and ended play with 101,425. Notable players still in the mix include Jeffrey Lisandro, David Steicke, Eric Assadourian, Grant Levy (pictured above right), and Tony Hachem.

Grant Levy Triples Up

Grant Levy rallied late on day 1B to grow his stack from 4,000 to 40,000 thanks to a big hand wherein he tripled up. Levy was all in preflop against Leo Boxell and one other opponent. Here is a look at their cards:
