Thomas Marchese Takes the POY Lead
Even though it was a slow weak as far as major poker tours were concerned, there was a lot of movement in the Card Player Player of the Year standings. The big change comes at the top, with Thomas Marchese taking the lead from Harrison Gimbel. Marchese cashed in 24th place at the World Poker Tour Bay 101 Shooting Star and took home $20,500 and 50 points. He followed that up with his third final-table appearance of the year at the $5,000 Wynn Classic. He finished in fourth place and took home $73,356 in prize money along with 576 points.
These two cashes in March come on the heels of a very strong February where Marchese won the North American Poker Tour Venetian main event to take home $827,648 and 1,920 points. His first live cash this year came on Feb. 5 at the Borgata Winter Open $5,000 championship event. Marchese cashed in third place at the final table and won $190,027 and 960 points. Marchese now holds 3,506 points and he has won $1,111,531 playing tournament poker during the last two months.
