Remote Gambling Association criticizes new French gaming lawThe UK-based Remote Gambling Association, which represents the world’s largest licenced and publicly-quoted remote gambling companies, has criticized the recent law opening the online poker and gaming market in France.

The RGA is calling on the French government to amend the law saying it “makes a mockery of a supposed ‘controlled opening’” of the gaming market there.

Clive Hawkswood (pictured), chief executive of the RGA, said in a statement, “Whether it is the hundred plus pages of technical rules, the false limitation on payouts to players, the ineffective blocking mechanisms or the introduction of an unsubstantiated sports right, this system is, unfortunately, seriously flawed and will make it difficult for any private sector company to be successful.”

Hawskwood went on to voice his concerns about the type of “controlled opening” system being deployed by the French saying, “It looks nothing like the Italian system for instance and runs roughshod over EU rules meant to provide operators access to EU markets. We hope the new Commissioner who oversees this dossier will continue to scrutinize this law and its negative effects on market access.”
