New Zealand Poker ChampionshipThe New Zealand Poker Championship, held in Christchurch Casino, was this year won again by Soren Eriksen. Eriksen beat more than 80 players including heads-up opponent Cole Swannack to take home the $60,000 top prize.

Last year the New Zealand-based Dane earned $100,000 for first place after taking out a field of 101 players. His heads-up opponent in 2009 was the 2008 champ, David Borg.

It is the first time in the 12-year history of the NZ Poker Championship that a player has won back-to-back main events. Eriksen said, “It’s amazing! I was quietly confident coming into the first day, but never thought I’d actually come away with the trophy again."

Brett Anderson, Chief Executive Officer of Christchurch Casino, said, “I’m really happy for Soren, he’s an outstanding poker player. One of the great things about him winning is that the title stays here in New Zealand."
