Foxwoods Resort Casino opened its new poker room yesterday and hottie Carmen Electra and World Poker Tour host Mike Sexton were there to follow the red carpet right into the world's first WPT-branded poker room.

The expansion gives Foxwoods another 38 tables, bringing its total to 114. It was already the largest poker room in New England, and now it has just about as many tables as any poker room in Atlantic City or Las Vegas. Foxwoods opened in 1992.

According to WPT CEO and founder Steve Lipscomb, the room was designed to evoke the "cool, classy, charismatic" character of the show. Foxwoods was the first casino to sign on with the WPT, and some of the largest prize pools of the show have been won at Foxwoods. The new room should help make future tournament fields even larger.

The WPT has worked to license its brand to companies around the world. It would be tough to find a mall in America that doesn't have an item bearing the WPT logo. There are also casino table games and video poker and slot machines capitalizing on the WPT brand. It seemed like it was only a matter of time until a WPT-themed poker room would open.

The official name of the room is the WPT Poker Room at Foxwoods. It's located in a space next to where the old cardroom used to be. The new Fifth Street Café, a 100-seat restaurant, also opened as part of the expansion.

The cardroom uses a computerized seating system and tables with automatic shufflers.

Electra dealt the first ceremonial poker hand and then the celebrities and VIPs played a $25,000 winner-take-all tournament.
