The World Series of Poker may not begin until May 28, but poker players in the greater Oklahoma area will have a convenient, smaller buy-in series next month to tide themselves over before the action heats up in Vegas.
Running May 6-17, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino (located just outside of Tulsa in Catoosa) will host the Mid-South Poker Classic, complete with 24 tournaments ranging from $125 to $1,060.
The series kicks off with a $125 Jack-n-Jill tournament on May 6 at 7 p.m. The event is one of several different varieties that Hard Rock will be offering in the annual series this year. There is also a $235 heads-up tournament (max: 64 players) on May 9 at 11 a.m., a $125 seniors event on May 10 at 7 p.m., a $125 no-limit hold’em shootout event (max: 100 players) on May 13 at 3 p.m., and a $125 ladies tournament on May 13 at 7 p.m.
Standard no-limit hold’em isn’t the only variant that will be offered either. The series will also be hosting an Omaha eight-or-better event, a pot-limit Omaha/hold’em mixed event, a six-max no-limit event, a PLO rebuy event, and a H.O.R.S.E. event.
The championship event ($1,000+$60) will kick off May 16 at 11 a.m. and may go two days if necessary. Players will have 15,000 in starting chips, with blinds just starting at 25-25.
