bwin expands its online poker presence in Italybwin’s Ongame poker network has signed three new partners to its Italian network ⎯ MatchGames, TOBS, and Casino Italia.

This brings the total number of partners on Ongame’s regional Italian online poker network to 10.

bwin recently saw its Italian poker revenue grow to $12.8 million.

Martin Lerby, head of Ongame, said “Ongame Network’s Italian operation is in an exciting expansion phase and demonstrates the business benefits of being a responsible supplier who works within legal jurisdictions."

Elsewhere, The European Commission today said it had dropped all legal action against Italy over the country’s previous protectionist stance on online gambling.

In a statement the Commission said it had, “…ensured that Italian citizens will have access to a wider choice of authorised on-line gambling services as a result of changes made to Italy’s laws on online gambling. The Commission has therefore closed a series of legal cases against Italy concerning this legislation.”

As part of the moves to licence and regulate online games in the face of EU pressure Italy opened up the online tournament poker market in 2008.
