Stop four of season II on the European Masters of Poker tour saw homegrown talent Giovanni Sutera top the 386–strong field to pick up the first prize of €85,220 in the €1,100 buy-in main event at the weekend.
He joins Vladimir Mefodichev, Maciej Lipny, and Timothy Timotheuo as season II champion.
Sutera started the final table as the short stack after 2 days play but held steady and quadrupled up when threehanded to give himself a realistic shot at winning.
With Finn Janne Pitko busing in third Sutera was up against fellow countryman Fabio Percopo heads up and an all in preflop with Sutera holding A 7 and Percopo holding K-T would see the winner crowned.
Two clubs fell on the flop and a third on the turn to give Sutera a flush and crown him king of Casino di Campione.
