This Week in Poker

There was another flurry of movement on the Card Player Player of the Year leader board this week. Gavin Smith joined the top 10 when he won his first gold bracelet at event No. 44 ($2,500 mixed hold’em) at the World Series of Poker. Smith was awarded $268,238 and 1,440 points for the victory. That gives him a total on the year worth 2,965 points and it helped him make the leap into ninth place overall.

The other major movers and shakers in the top 10 were previous members that improved their standings with WSOP cashes. Allan Baekke made the final table of event No. 47 ($1,000 no-limit hold’em) and he cashed in eighth place. Baekke was awarded 240 points, which was enough for him to jump up to a seventh-place tie with Harrison Gimbel. Dwyte Pilgrim made his 11th final table of the year and his first one at the WSOP when he cashed in eighth place at the $2,500 mixed hold’em event. Pilgrim took home 240 points and he jumped into fourth place overall with 3,376 points.
