World Series of Poker -- Day 1D of the 2010 Main EventDavid Benyamine Near Top of Chip Counts |
|
While most of the world’s attention was focused on free agent LeBron James and his decision to join the Miami Heat, the poker world’s attention was squared in on day 1d of the 2010 World Series of Poker main event.
A total of 2,391 entrants turned out for the fourth of the four starting days, making this year’s world championship the second largest in history. Last year’s day 1d was sold out and prevented hundreds of players from registering for the event. Combined with Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday’s total of 4,928, the 2010 main event field size officially stands at 7,319 players.
Bracelet winner David Benyamine is near the top of the chip counts at the end of the day. Part of his success was thanks to a solid fold he made during the day.
On a board of A Q J 9 David Benyamine bet 4,700. His opponent tanked before eventually making the call. The A fell on the river and Benyamine checked. His opponent quickly fired out a bet of 6,000. Benyamine went into the tank before finally folding and flashing K-10 for broad way. His opponent made him feel a little better by exposing the AJ for a full house. Benyamine was down to about 35,000 after the hand, but ended with over 130,000 when the night concluded.
Other notables who ended near the top of the chip counts include Vanessa Rousso, Jason Mercier, Archie Karas, Matt Keikoan, Brett Richey, Steve Billirakis and Kevin O’Donnell.
Notable eliminations from the last starting day include Sorel Mizzi, Allen Kessler, Joe Cassidy, John Juanda, Joe Hachem, Emmitt Smith and Justin Smith.
