There were 2,412 survivors who made it to day 2a of the 2010 World Series of Poker main event. Of those, only 1,295 will move on to day 3 on Monday.
Boulos Estafanous won’t become a household name by ending day 2A as the chip leader, but it’s certainly a good start. The Chicago-native ended the day with 344,100 in chips and is in good position to run deep toward the near-$9 million first-place prize.
But there are plenty of big-name pros still with chips to play with. One former world champion who has had a quiet Series this year has fittingly decided to save his best for last. Johnny Chan has played in very few events in this year’s Series, but he entered day 2a among the chip leaders, and he’s ending the day that same way with 281,600 — good enough to put the two-time world champion in the top ten on the leader board.
Several other main event champions survived the day, as well, including Chris Moneymaker, Scotty Nguyen and reigning champ Joe Cada.
Also still more than healthy in chips are notables such as Card Player publisher Barry Shulman, Cole South, Robert Mizrachi, Sam Farha, Hoyt Corkins, Shannon Shorr, Michael Mizrachi and David Williams.
Notables not making it through day 2A include Ted Forrest, Carlos Mortensen, Berry Johnston, Tom McEvoy, Daniel Alaei, Brock Parker, Dennis Phillips, Greg Mueller, Dutch Boyd and Mike Sexton.
Day 2B will start at noon Saturday with the combined 2,731 survivors from days 1B and 1D coming out for the same goal. Who will make it to day 3 and be one step closer to being called world champion?
