World Poker Tour -- Season IX Begins at Bellagio Cup VIRegistration Will Remain Open until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday |
|
Season IX of the Word Poker Tour kicked off on a high note at Bellagio in Las Vegas on Sunday, July 11. The first day of the Bellagio Cup VI attracted 243 players, which was just shy of the total field of 268 players that entered last year. Registration is open during all fives levels of play today and will close at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The bump in attendance (currently 275 players) might be due to the buy-in for this event dropping to $10,000 after coming with a price tag of $15,000 last year. The strong attendance on day 1 is a good sign for Bellagio and the new season of the WPT. Players can still win their way into the tournament at single-table satellites running in the Fontana Lounge through out tonight and tomorrow. There will also be a “Double Desperado” super satellite tonight at 9 p.m. The buy-in for tonight’s satellite is $1,080.
There were 162 players that survived day 1 and they are currently playing in day 2 with a stream of new entrants that chose to enter the tournament today. Card Player will feature daily summaries of the event, which will run until a champion is crowned at the final table on Friday, July 16.

Vivek Rajkumar Climbs the Leader Board
A player under the gun raised to 1,200 preflop and two players called from middle position. Vivek Rajkumar reraised to 4,400 from the cutoff and UTG and one opponent from middle position made the call, while the other folded. The flop was dealt 10 6 3 and UTG moved all in for 17,000. Middle position mucked and Rajkumar made the call. The two players then revealed their cards:
Rajkumar: A 9
UTG: Q 10
Turn and River: 7 and 3
Rajkumar made his flush on the turn to eliminate his opponent and grow his chip stack to 120,000.
