With the prospect of regulated online poker in the U.S. taking a step closer last week, social gaming poker operators are eyeing the prospect of entering the potentially lucrative market according to BusinessInsider.com.
A source close to Zynga, the largest of these operators and owner of Facebook’s second most popular game, Texas Hold’Em, told the website it would be excited by the prospect of moving into real money poker.
However Facebook, which closely protects its highly valuable brand and could find it difficult to accept online poker even if it were legal, told Business Insider that it was, “too early to speculate or get caught up in hypotheticals.”
The prospect of millions of extra poker players entering the market if poker were to become regulated and taxed in the U.S will have both companies and players alike licking their lips in anticipation.
Well-known companies within the poker world such as World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker also host games on Facebook.
