The Detox Poker Series at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is about half-way over, and some big-name poker players are turning out to play in the relatively low buy-in events. Early highlights of the tournament series include wins booked by poker professionals Joe Tehan (pictured right) and Frankie O’Dell. The $350 no-limit hold’em event that kicked off the tournament series attracted 399 players and the total prize pool ($121,150) eclipsed the $100,000 guaranteed by the Hard Rock.
The tournament series will come to a conclusion with a three-day $550 no-limit hold’em main event that begins on Friday, August 20 at 1 p.m. The main event will have a guaranteed prize pool worth $200,000. The classic Hard Rock record trophy will also be awarded to the champion of the event.
A player appreciation event will run on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 5 p.m. Players with three receipts are eligible to play in the tournament with no entry fee but with $50 Rebuys.
“I think it will be a great series and will be both unique and the most player-friendly Las Vegas Poker Series of the summer,” said tournament director Matt Savage. “The tournament will have deep structures not deep stacks with a lot of play mid to late and hour-long levels at the final table.” Savage and his tournament staff have implemented player-friendly features like cell-phone charging stations and happy hour drink specials during this fun tournament series.
