The largest buy-in tournament in the history of live tournament poker is planned to take this place this fall in Monte Carlo. The International Poker Players Association in partnership with SBM of Monte Carlo will host a high-roller no-limit hold’em shootout tournament that begins in late November.
The glamorous location in Monaco is an appropriate setting for a poker tournament that comes with a $250,000 price tag and if the field hits the maximum size of 48 players the tournament will boast a $12 million prize pool. The first-place prize will be $5 million if 48 players attend, making it one of the largest top prizes in poker this year.
The tournament is scheduled to run from Nov. 29-Dec. 2 and it will be televised, although the network it will run on has yet to be announced. Card Player will keep you posted about qualifier opportunities for the IPPA Monte Championship when additional qualifier dates are announced.
The first qualifier took place during the Legends of Poker tournament series at the Bicycle Casino in late August.
