Swiss Federal Council Upholds Poker BanNo Change In Swiss Ban On Poker Outside Of Casinos |
|
Switzerland will continue to outlaw poker tournaments held outside casinos according to World Radio Switzerland.
The Federal Council has upheld an earlier Supreme Court ruling which viewed poker as a game of luck which, as such, could not be played outside a casino environment.
This ruling was criticized by the International Federation of Poker.
Councillors from across the political spectrum argued for the ban to be lifted, saying that jobs were being lost and young people forced to try other forms of gambling as a result.
While the Council rejected calls to reform the law it noted that non-professional games between family and friends were still legal.
