Olivier Busquet This year’s Borgata Poker Open has eclipsed the record for the largest field in World Poker Tour history.

The championship event began on Saturday in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The two day-one flights combined to have 1,042 players putting up the $3,500 buy-in and creating a prize pool of $3,438,600. The previous record was set at last year’s Borgata Poker Open, at 1,018 entrants.

Day 2 begins today, with only 641 players remaining. They will play eight 75-minute levels, and the dinner break will take place after level 14. Blinds will start at 300-600 with a 75 ante. The average chip stack is around 48,800.

Everyone who makes the final televised table of six will be guaranteed at least $148,427. Thanks to a flatter payout structure, the winner will take home $733,802.

Last year’s WPT Borgata winner Olivier Busquet is still alive going into Day 2, with just shy of the tournament’s 30,000 starting chip stack. His 2009 win earned him $925,514.

Other notables still remaining include Jeff Papola, John D’Agostino, Allen Bari, Jerry Yang, Vinny Pahuja, Bernard Lee, Gavin Smith and Dwyte Pilgrim.
