The $2,000 no-limit hold’em championship of the 2010 Commerce Hold’em Series ended September 19 with Ayyub Patel taking down the largest tournament of his career for $86,920.
The first event of the Commerce Series began back on September 1 in Los Angeles. The three-day main event (No. 16) wrapped up the Series on Sept. 17. The championship saw 140 players come out, creating a $271,600 prize pool.
When action reached the final table, Patel sat down with the least career tournament winnings of the remaining players, at just around $10,000. At the conclusion of the event that had all changed with the Torrance, California-native nearing the $100,000 club.
To win it, Patel had to outlast experienced players like Joe Tehan, who entered the final table with more than $2 million in career tournament winnings. Tehan, a former World Poker Tour champion, ultimately fell in 6th-place, good for $10,590.
