En route to reaching the impressive 50-billion hand milestone, PokerStars broke one of its own unofficial records.
Thanks to the nearly month-long promotion, on Sept. 22 the online site hosted more than 105,000 players on its cash-game tables. The mark eclipsed the site’s previous record of just more than 103,000 in ring games.
The old mark was set back in February when PokerStars was approaching its 40-billionth hand. Similarly, the large number of cash-game players less than two weeks ago was due to the approaching 50-billionth hand. The winner of the milestone hand was set to receive an extra $50,000.
Consequently, on the morning of Sept. 22, the 50-billionth hand milestone was reached. German player tbvle won the pot and walked away with $56,140 at $0.02-$0.05 no-limit hold’em.
The world’s largest online poker site is no stranger to setting records. Last December PokerStars set the Guinness World Record for largest online tournament with a $1 buy-in event that drew 149,196 players.
