Poker Stars SCOOP Series Begins Today

The wait is over. The inaugural Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) kicks off today at 2:30 p.m. ET with a six-handed no-limit hold’em rebuy tournament.

There will be 22 different kinds of events over the next 11 days, with 66 tournaments in all, since PokerStars decided to offer three unique buy-in levels for the series. Tournament buy-ins for the series range for as little as $5.50 to as much as $25,500.

Today’s event has already attracted a monster field. As of two hours before the event was set to begin, the small stakes version of event No. 1 (six-handed no-limit hold’em rebuy tournament with a $5.50 buy-in) has already attracted nearly 20,000 participants. Not too shabby for a Thursday afternoon tournament.

There will be two events each day until the series concludes. The pot-limit Omaha eight-or-better tournament will commence at 4:30 p.m. ET later today.
