Big Hands:
Aggressive Shak Takes One Away
The player on the button put in a raise and Beth Shak reraised to 1,050 from the small blind. Action folded back to the button who made the call.
The flop ran 8Q6 and Shak fired 1,500. The button thought more a moment before letting his hand go.
Shak had around 31,700 after the hand.
Boyd’s Aggresion Earns Him One
After a raise and reraise preflop, Ductch Boyd and Pierre Neuville saw a flop of 224.
Neuville led from the small blind for 1,050 and Boyd quickly made it 3,150.
Neuville disgustedly threw his cards into the muck and Boyd stays right around their starting stack.
Chad Bastista Takes One
Chad Batista made a raise to 275 from early position and called a three-bet to 875 from a player in middle position.
The flop came 10Q9 and both players checked. The turn was the Q and Batista checked again. His opponent bet and Batista made a check-raise to 2,500 and his opponent quickly folded.
Cowboys For Mizrachi
Picking up the action after the board had run out 8734A, Michael Mizrachi fired 2,000 into a pot holding 7,000.
His opponent in seat 6 tanked and then threw in the call. Mizrachi tabled KK and seat 6 mucked.
Mizrachi took the pot and he was at 40,000.
Raymer Done
Greg Raymer moved all in for his last 2,600 and the next player shoved. Other players in the hand mucked and Raymer was isolated.
Raymer: 88
Opponent: AA
The board ran out K10276 and Raymer could not crack aces to save his tournament life.
Hennigan Takes One
A player raised to 300 and John Hennigan called. The small blind reraised to 1,800 and Hennigan was the only caller.
The flop was J83 and both players checked. The turn was the 9 and the small blind bet 2,025. Hennigan would have none of that nonsense as he raised to 5,100.
His opponent mucked and Hennigan took the pot. He was at 38,000.
Nick Schulman Busts
Picking up the action on the flop, the board read Q97. Nick Schulman bet 1,200 and Hunter Frey made the call. The turn was the 4 and Schulman shoved for his last 6,550.
Frey made the call with AQ but was trailing Schulman’s KK. That all changed when the river brought the Q, giving Frey trips and booting Schulman out the door on the first level of play.

Seiver was in trouble with the lower pocket pair. The J hit on the turn and the 10 river eliminated Seiver and shot Mortensen to 800,000 in chips.

Jeff Shulman Eliminated
The board read K8610 and 35,000 sat in the pot when Jeff Shulman checked under the gun and Bet Shak bet 30,000 from the cutoff. Shulman check-raised all in and Shak made the all-in call. Their cards:
Shulman: AK

The river changed nothing and Shak doubled up to 190,000 to survive. Shulman was left with just 2,000 after the hand and he was eliminated shortly thereafter.
Kevin Saul Eliminated
Kevin Saul was all in with pocket kings and Shawn Buchanan had him covered with pocket queens in the hole preflop. A queen hit on the flop and Saul was eliminated on the hand.

She now has just under 80,000 in chips.

Big Hands/Storylines:
Tilly Builds Stack Early
Jennifer Tilly raised to 125 pre-flop and the action folded to the player in the big blind, who made the call. The two saw the K75 flop heads up, and the big blind checked. Tilly bet 150, and her opponent folded.
Seidel Gets Some Respect
In the Brazilian Room, Erik Seidel made it 150 to go from middle position and was called by an opponent in the cut-off. All other players folded, and the two players saw a flop of J74. Seidel followed through with a bet of 375, and his opponent deliberated before releasing his hand.
Humberto Brenes Nearly Doubles Up
On a board of Q96, a player made a bet of 500 and his lone opponent, Humberto Brenes, raised an additional 1,000. After pausing to size up the situation, the player called. The dealer put down the 4 on the turn, and the player checked. Brenes continued with a bet of 1,000. His opponent counted out his remaining chips and pensively stared at Brenes before releasing his hand into the muck. Brenes picked up several thousand in chips from that hand alone, and is healthy in the tournament’s early stages.
Gavin Smith Can’t Be Bluffed
On a table that he is currently sharing with Mike Matusow in an overflow room, Gavin Smith showed his table that he can’t easily be bluffed. A player in early position raised to 150 and Smith made the call from middle position. All other players folded, and the dealer dealt a flop a 973. The player checked and Smith bet 225. His opponent called, and the 2 was dealt on the turn. This time the other player took the lead, betting 300. Smith quickly called, and the 3 was dealt as the river. The bet from his opponent this time was 500, and Smith made the call. “Nothing,” his opponent said as he flipped over AK. Smith showed the 75 and collected the pot.
Young Phan Busted Already?
“They got me! I busted,” Young Phan announced to the press, referring to the empty felt in front of him normally reserved for a player’s chips. Phan was being facetious. Due to his late entry into today’s event, Phan’s chip stack was being held by the dealer until his next blind was due. This has been standard protocol for all late entry players in this year’s World Series of Poker.
Shak Survives All-In
Beth Shak committed her final 1750 in chips on a board of JK386. Her lone opponent mulled the decision for a long time, then finally committed to the call. Shak showed JJ for the flopped set, while her opponent was forced to muck K8 for two pair.

$1,500 NL - Level 4
Jun 19, '08
It has been announced that 2,447 players entered this event, creating a prize pool of $3,340,155. Only 198 places will get paid. First place will take home $610,304.
Note: Players are now on a 20 minute break.
Blinds: 100-200 with a 25 ante
Average Chip Stack: 5,604
Chip Counts:
Craig Gray: 19,200
Nancy Todd Tyner: 16,000
Thierry van den Berg: 14,00
Jon Friedberg: 12,000
Scott Montgomery: 11,700
Jennifer Liebig: 11,000
Tom McEvoy: 10,500
Steve Paul Ambrose: 10,400
Alex Jacob: 10,000
Freddy Deeb: 9,000
Eliminations: Anna Wroblewski, Shankar Pillai, Beth Shak, Johnny Chan
Big Hands:
Big Slick Good To ElkY
Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier raised to 550 from late position and the player in seat 5, who had been moving all in preflop often, moved in. Grospellier made the call and flipped over AK. Seat 4 had A8 and was in bad shape. The board ran AQ5Q6 and Grospellier eliminated the player.
Just Kings?
Anna Wroblewski had been shortstacked for a while and when action folded to her in the small blind it seemed like a good spot to push. Unfortunately, the big blind woke up with K-K. Anna had one over, holding A-6, but she couldn't come through and Wroblewski was gone. David Singer remains seated at that table.
Danger Tom McEvoy
Tom McEvoy has been chipping up nicely, and he avoided a dangerous pot when he raised to 600 from late position, then seat 5 reraised, and seat 6 reraised again all in. McEvoy laid it down and the player in seat 5 thought over his decision before finally calling. It appeared to be a bad call.
Seat 5: 66
Seat 6: A
But the board ran out 87467, giving seat 5 the full house to crack the pocket aces. It's probably a fair guess to say that McEvoy made a good fold there.
Shak is Out
Shak got her short stack in with Q-7 against two opponents. The board came K-5-4-9-2, missing Shak and she was eliminated.

Hellmuth Makes Record 65th Cash
Jeff Norman raised to 20,000 on the button and Phil Hellmuth called all in form the short stack for his last 10,000. Hellmuth had been telling the rail all level how card dead he was and how much patience and discipline he had, so here was the big moment...Hellmuth had finally picked his spot.
Hellmuth: QJ
Norman: 1010
Board: A832K
Hellmuth was behind before the flop and failed to improve by the river. Phil Hellmuth was eliminated in 71st place, earning $6,604. This was Hellmuth 65th record WSOP cash.
Jose Velador Wins Monster Pot, Secures Huge Chip Lead
In a heads-up pot, with six-figures already in the middle, Jose Luis Velador made an 85,000 bet on the river and Richard Toth went into the tank. After several minutes of deliberation and counting and recounting his chips, Toth finally made the crying call for more than half of his stack.
Board: KJ954
Velador: KJ
Toth: K
Toth called and flashed a king for top pair while Velador showed top two pair, kings and jacks. Velador raked a monster pot, securing a healthy chip lead with just under 500,000 while Toth dropped down to just over 70,000 after the hand.
Beth Shak Eliminated in 62nd Place ($7,547)
James Lohmer shoved all in for about 35,000 and Shane Stacey called. Beth Shak called all in behind him for about 15,000 from the big blind. With two of the three players all in and facing elimination, everyone turned over their cards.
Lohmer: AQ
Stacey: AQ
Shak: 54
Board: 885QK
Beth Shak was trailing from the start, but flopped a pair of fives and took the lead. It looked good for her as both of her opponents were sharing a hand, reducing their outs, but a queen on the turn menat Shak was redrawing very slim. The river missed her and Both Stacey and Lohmer split the pot. Beth Shak was eliminated in 62nd place, earning $7,547.
