Hold'em
Flopped It
The player in seat 7 raised in position and David Benyamine called from the small blind and Billy "The Croc" Argyros called from middle the position. The flop came 8 7 5 and both Benyamine and Argyros checked to seat 7, who bet. Benyamine and Argyros made the call. The turn was the J and action was again checked to seat 7. He bet and Benyamine called, but Argyros mucked. The river was the 4 , putting four hearts on the board. Benyamine bet out for the first time and seat 7 tanked. After lots of thought he made the call and Benyamine flipped over A 2 , for the flopped ace-high flush, and raked the pot.
A Full Tilt Collision
Full Tilt's Phil Ivey and Perry Friedman (who still has the Full Tilt logo on the side of his head) got involved in a pot when Ivey raised and Perry re-raised in position. Ivey made the call and the flop came K 8 6 . Ivey checked, Friedman bet out and Ivey made the call. The turn was the 10 and both players checked. Ivey bet out instantly when the 2 hit on the river and Friedman mucked his hand. Still, day one has not been kind to Ivey. He ended it with around 40,000 in chips.
Omaha 8
Set of Jacks for Antonius
When his opponent bet out on the river on a board of K-J-5-8-2, Patrik Antonius raised. His opponent called and Antonius showed J-J-6-4 for a set of jacks to take the pot while his opponent sat shaking his head.
Razz
Schneider Takes One Down
Tom Schneider bet every street until 7th street, where he slowed down and checked. His opponent called all the way and checked with Schneider on the end. Their cards were:
Schneider: 4 8 6 J (A-2-Q)
His opponent: 9 A 6 9 (X-X-X)
Seeing that Schneider made an 8-low, his opponent mucked and Schneider took the pot.
Oppenheim Makes 9-Low For Pot
After some serious betting early, David Oppenheim and his opponent checked sixth and seventh street. Their cards here:
Oppenheim: 6 K 5 9 (9-4-2)
His opponent: 8 8 A 3 (Q-10-2)
Oppenheim's 9-low was good enough to edge out his opponent's 10-low and he raked a sizeable pot.
Good Hands
Surely Bill Chen and the player in seat 7 thought they were going to win the heavily bet pot before them. But when they showed down their best razz hands they saw something surprising:
Chen: 6-5-4-3-2-X-X-X
Seat 7: 6-5-4-3-2-X-X-X
Both players made the six-low and they split the pot.
Stud
Guess I'll Fold
Brandon Adams was showing the A when he bet out. His opponent was showing the Q and made the call. When Adams hit the A for his next card, his opponent shrugged at the early pair of aces in front of Adams and mucked his visible Q 9 .
Stud 8
Hellmuth Elminated by Fitoussi
In a three-way pot with Bruno Fitoussi and Rafi Amit, Phil Hellmuth got all in on fifth street. Their hands were:
Hellmuth: 6 4 9 2 (6-9-x)
Fitoussi: 8 4 K 10 (K Q 10 )
Amit: 5 7 10 5 (x-x-x)
Fitoussi's two pair was better than Hellmuth's and Hellmuth was eliminated late in day one.
Dwan Flushes Hennigan's Two-Pair
Tom Dwan has gotten the better of John Hennigan in a number of pots. In one hand Hennigan was showing two pair, yet couldn't get the better of the young internet-sensation. Their cards were:
Hennigan: 3 3 K K (x-x-x)
Dwan: 4 2 J 9 (A 8 5 )
Dwan hit his ace-high flush and Hennigan angrily mucked his hand.
Leonidas Gets Better of Kostritsyn
Toto Leonidas bet every street during the hand. Isabelle Mercier got out of the way after fourth street but Leonidas was called down by Alexander Kostritsyn. Their showdown revealed:
Leonidas: A 6 5 4 (A-7-6)
Kostritsyn: A J 4 Q (Muck)
Seeing Leonidas' two pair, Kostritsyn slowly mucked his cards and Leonidas took the pot.

Big Hands
Seven-Card Stud
Ivey Doubles Up
He came into day 4 as the second lowest stack of the field, but one can never underestimate Phil Ivey. He had the bring-in for 5000 with the 2 , and only Barry Greenstein was willing to look him up, completing the bet to 18,000 while showing the J . Ivey added the 3 on fourth street, and Greenstein the K . He was able to raise Ivey all-in at that point, and confidently showed king-jack in the hole for two pair. However, Ivey struck back with pocket deuces for three of a kind, and that held up to the end to bring Ivey back over 200,000 in chips.
Ivey added to the stack in a battle with Farah Bonyadi a few hands later. Showing J 9 through fourth street, Ivey continued to bet out by adding the Q on fifth street and the 7 on sixth. Bonyadi, who paired on fifth street, showed 2 3 3 J . But both players checked on seventh street and Ivey could only flip over pocket sixes for the low pair. Yet it was enough to scoop the pot.
Brown Busts Out
Chad Brown was the lone player to return with less than 100,000 in chips, and his 81,000 didn't go very far. Through sixth street Brown was showing 10-9-7-6, but beside him Patrick Bueno was showing K-Q-J-6, with three diamonds up. Sure enough, Bueno was able to flip over the 5 2 to complete the flush and send Brown out in 24th place.
Lindgren Chips Up
Erick Lindgren had the bring-in with the 2 , and play was folded to Ray Davis who completed with the 8 . David added the A on fourth street and would bet out through sixth as he added the 5 5 . Lindgren continued to call, now showing 2 K Q 5 . Davis finally slowed and checked after the seventh card, but Lindgren then stepped out for 36,000. Davis called, but mucked when Lindgren showed him king-queen in the hole for two pair.
Adams Stares Them Down
Huck Seed completed the bet to 18,000 with the K showing, and was called by Brandon Adams with the Q and Andy Bloch with the J . After Seed checked fourth street, Adams bet 18,000 after adding the J , and led out again when the A joined him on fifth street. Seed then tanked, apparently liking what he had to go along with his K 7 9 . He eventually folded, as did Bloch who was showing J 6 Q .

$10,000 World Championship Limit Hold'em - End of Day 1
Jun 15, '08
Play has concluded here on day 1 of the event 30, the $10,000 world championship limit hold'em tournament. The players will collect their bearings and get some rest tonight before reconvening in the Brasilia Room tomorrow at 3 p.m. PST. 98 players remain from the original 218 but only one will take home the first-prize of $496,931.
Here is a rundown of some of the action that took place on the final level of the day:
Blinds: 600-1,200
Players Left: 98 of 218
Chip Leaders:
Patrick Bueno - 88,000
Michael Mizrachi - 82,000
Kenneth Shei - 76,000
Matthew "mattster24" Sterling - 71,000
J.C. Tran - 68,000
Justin Bonomo - 67,000
Marco Traniello - 67,000
Alexander Kravchenko - 65,000
Brock "t soprano" Parker - 60,000
Terrence Chan - 58,000
Greg Mueller – 57,000
Average Stack: 45,000
Eliminations:
Bill Chen
Brandon Adams
Jennifer Harman
Big Hands and Storylines:
“Weak” Wahlroos Pips Parker
Thomas Wahlroos raised from early position and was called by Brock “t soprano” Parker in the big blind. Parker check-raised Wahlroos on a flop of 10 8 5 and Wahlroos elected to call. Parker continued his aggression on the turn and river, betting both streets, and Wahlroos called him both times. Parker showed A 10 for second pair, and when the Finn saw this he admitted, “I am so weak at this game,” before turning up his A A . The rockets blasted Wahlroos to 36,000. Parker still has a very healthy 60,000.
Sterling’s Straight Axes Adams
Brandon Adams got the majority of his chips in against Matt “mattster24” Sterling on a A Q 8 flop. After Sterling put Adams all-in on the K turn the two revealed their hands:
Sterling: J T
Adams: A K
The river was the Q and Adams was sent packing. Sterling now has an impressive 71,000 chips to work with.
Odds, Schmodds
A very strange situation occurred in the last level involving Mike Wattel and the player to his left. Wattel and the player did a great deal of betting on the flop and turn. Then, on the river, with a board of Q 9 5 3 J , Wattel’s opponent tossed in his last 400 in chips.... into a pot of 21,000. Remarkably, after much consideration, Wattel folded. His opponent showed Q-Q, so we’ll give Wattel the benefit of the doubt and assume he didn’t have a straight.
The Mathematics of Value Bets
Bill Chen raised on the button and was three-bet by Justin Bonomo in the small blind. Bonomo bet into Chen on a flop of J 5 5 and Chen called. Both players checked the 7 on the turn, and Bonomo bet again on the 2 river. Chen called, and Bonomo tabled A K . “Good value bet,” chimed Chen, who showed A-9. The pot helps Bonomo up to about 65,000 at the end of the day. Chen was eliminated only moments before the conclusion of day 1.

Big Hands and Storylines:
Congratulations to Barry Greenstein
An announcement was made over the public address system informing the room of Barry Greenstein’s victory in the $1,500 razz tournament. Apparently Barry did not stick around to savor his victory for very long, because as the announcement was being made he was taking his seat at table 14 in the $10,000 limit tournament while simultaneously conducting an interview. When asked by a fellow player how much the tournament win was worth, Barry seemed hesitant to answer, though he eventually said it was about $150,000. For the record, it was $158,659.
Bloch Takes One Down
Michael Binger made a raise from early position; Andy Bloch in the big blind was the only caller. On a flop of Q 10 4 , Bloch checked, Binger bet, and Bloch called. Both players checked the 5 turn. The river was the J , Bloch bet out and got a call from Binger. Bloch’s 5 4 made two-pair and he raked in the pot. Bloch now has 33,000, still far short of Binger’s stack of 55,000.
Sung Sunk
On a flop of K T 8 , Steve Sung bet from the small blind and was called by Daniel Alaei in late position. The action played out the same way, bet-call, on both the 3 turn and K river. Sung tabled A 8 and Alaei showed J T for a higher two-pair. Sung, with 39,000, still has more chips than Alaei, but 21,000 is still a respectable amount at this juncture of the tournament.
Brandon Adams Hit Hard
Brandon Adams lost about 5,000 chips on a hand in which he flopped top-pair top-kicker against his opponent’s set of eights. The board was A J 8 T 6 ; Adams had A K and his opponent tabled 8 8 . Adams is now down to 10,000 and will in all likelihood need to double up in the day’s final level to make it to day 2.

Big Hands:
The Matadore Gored by Adams
On a board of 10 5 4 10 Carlos Mortensen bet out 10,000 and was called by Brandon Adams. The Q fell on the river and Adams moved all in. Mortensen thought for several minutes while stacking and restacking his chips. He eventually said, "I call," and Adams turned over 10 9 . Mortensen smacked the table, clearly upset with his read, and was eliminated.
Gowen Doesn't Catch, Eliminated by Kostritsyn
After losing a number of big pots with Alexander Kostritsyn, Clonie Gowen was low on chips and in trouble. She raised to 7,000 perflop and Kostritsyn pushed enough into the middle of the table to put her all in. Gowen reluctanly called and would need to hit an ace, showed A 8 . Kostritsyn showed 10 10 . THe board came 9 7 7 3 6 and Gowen was gone.
Tran Makes an Insane Call
J.C. Tran called Alec Torelli's 5,300 bet on a flop of 3 3 2 . The turn brought the Q and Torelli bet 12,000. Tran made the call and the K fell on the river. Torelli led out for 17,000. Whoever won the hand would take a 2-1 chip lead in the match. Tran thought for a moment then made the call, showing nothing more than 9 2 for a pair of deuces. But Deuces were good and Torelli mucked.
Jesus and the Buddhist
On a board of J 9 8 Q 6 , Andrew Black threw out a single 1,000 chip and Chris Ferguson called. "You win," Black said, and Ferguson showed 9 4 .
Farha Can't Win a Hand
Randall Brueckner bet 22,000 on a board of Q 9 8 10 Q . Sam Farha looked annoyed as he thought his decision over. He eventually made the call and as he apparently expected, Brueckner showed Q 9 for a full house. Farha was left shaking his head and commenting about how he hasn't won a hand in the match.

$5,000 No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball w/ Rebuys - Day 1 - Level 1 Recap
Jun 09, '08
Current entrants: 77
As expected, there have been plenty of shouts of "Rebuy!" heard throughout the orange section of the poker room in the first hour, but another refrain has also filled the air time and again: "Floor!" As could be expected in a game spread as infrequently as deuce-to-seven lowball, there have been a number of dealer errors. At table 5 -- featuring David Grey, Jennifer Harman, Daniel Alaei, and Chau Giang -- the players become noticeably perturbed at the result of numerous dealer errors made on a single hand.
Greg Mueller, too, found a reason to complain, though he had no qualms with the dealer. Registering a half-hour into the tournament, Mueller showed up to his seat and was upset to see part of his stack had been blinded away. The floor was called and, since Mueller registered late and did not simply arrive late, he was given the full starting stack (which he promptly doubled with a rebuy).
Of course, the players aren't perfect themselves. Many of them have shown their inexperience with the game, attempting to limp in pre-flop only to be informed that deuce-to-seven is a must-raise game.
As in most tournaments, the table a player is drawn to has quite an impact on their tournament chances. It seems that the table to be at today is, aptly, table no. 1. Featuring Doyle Brunson, Lyle Berman, Billy Baxter, Erick Lindgren, Brandon Adams, and a fashionably late Tony G, table no. 1 has seen chips flying back and forth from the outset.
Early on, Brunson made a raise to 3600 (with blinds at 100-200) from the small blind. Billy Baxter in the big blind moved all-in for his stack of 20,000. Doyle quipped, "This is a rebuy tournament right?" before moving his own 25,000 stack into the middle. Doyle drew one card and Baxter stood pat. Baxter told Doyle, "I ain't got much," but his T-8-5-4-3 was enough to get the better of Brunson, who flashed a face card before mucking.
Only two or three hands later Lindgren made a raise to 700 and Doyle fired his final 5,100 chips out. Lindgren called, and each player drew one card. Lindgren tabled 9-7-6-5-3 and Doyle again flashed a queen before mucking and asking the floor for a rebuy. Adding, "better make it a double."

Carlos Mortensen Crippled by Brandon Adams
Brandon Adams raised to 7,000 on the button and Carlos Mortensen elected to defend his blind. Adams and Mortensen drew one and two cards respectively during the discard round. Mortensen checked and Adams fired a bet of 17,000. Mortensen called and Adams turned over his 10 9 8 3 2 . Mortensen mucked his hand, leaving himself with only 15,000 in chips.
Robert Mizrachi Pads Tony G.’s Stack
After raising to 7,100 from under-the-gun and getting called by Antanas “Tony G” Guoga in the cut-off, Robert Mizrachi drew one card. Guoga stood pat, and both checked the final betting round. Guoga turned over the J 10 6 4 3 causing Mizrachi to muck his cards.
Meanwhile, Brother Michael Mizrachi on a Rollercoaster
After a crippling loss, Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi began an amazing comeback all within one orbit. Mizrachi doubled up Layne Flack’s stack to over 140,000 when Flack’s 8 6 5 4 3 was good for a large pot. Mizrachi was left with only 2,200 in chips and was forced to put 600 in as the ante for the next hand.
Mizrachi moved all in for his remaining 1,600 (less than the 2,400 big blind), and the action folded to Michael Binger in the small blind. Binger raised to 8,200 only to be reraised all in for 21,200 more by Dario Alioto. Binger contemplated before mucking, and after his draw of one card Alioto showed 10 8 6 5 2 . Mizrachi, who also drew one card, flipped over a nine-eight low and dragged the pot.
After posting his small blind of 1,200, Mizrachi moved all in against Nick Schulman’s big blind for 3,900 total. Able to call for only 1,400 more, Schulman made the call. Mizrachi drew two cards, while Schulman discarded the K K Q face up. Mizrachi’s final hand, 10 9 8 7 2 , was good against Schulman’s A 8 3 2 2 , and Mizrachi again successfully doubled up.
On the next hand, Michael Binger raised from early position and Mizrachi moved all in for 10,200 from the button. Layne Flack called from the big blind and Binger called as well. All three players drew one card and Flack and Binger checked the final open betting round. Mizrachi tripled up when his opponents couldn’t beat his nine-seven low
Mizrachi ended the level with over 40,000 in chips, an amazing comeback from 2,200!

The K on the turn came with a bet from Watkinson and a raise from Rousso, causing Lee to fold. The improvement to Rousso’s stack was short-lived, as she was eliminated later in the round.
Pot-Limit Omaha: Devilfish Feeds a Small Stack
On the same table, David “Devilfish” Ulliot raised to 2,100 from middle position and the player in the big blind called all in for only 1,900. Ulliot turned over K K 8 7 , a favorite over his opponent’s A 10 6 2 . The flop turned sour for Ulliot when it fell J T T , giving his opponent three-of-a-kind. The 5 on the turn and 4 on the river missed Ulliot, and he paid up to the small stack.
2-7 Triple Draw: Marcel Luske Eliminates Danny Alaei
Left struggling with a short stack due to losses on previous hands, Daniel Alaei finally took his stand against Marcel Luske during the deuce-to-seven triple draw round. When his all in bet was called by Luske, Alaei announced that he had a nine-seven low. Luske responded by asking, “Nine-seven what?” Marcel turned over his hand to reveal 9 7 5 4 3 . Alaei mucked his cards while saying that he had nine-seven-six low.
Pot-Limit Omaha: Can You Beat an Eight?
On a board of 8 3 3 , Gus Hansen faced a large, pot-sized reraise from an opponent. Gus went into the tank for several minutes before ultimately releasing his hand. Big Hands:
Pot-Limit Omaha: Tensions High as Amnon Filippi All In
On a board of 9 3 4 2 , Amnon Filippi pushed all in for his remaining 6,200. The bet represented a small fraction of the current pot, and Filippi wondered aloud why Sam Farha was deliberating for so long before calling. Farha announced that he didn’t want to show his hand, but called the bet anyway. When he finally called and Filippi turned over A A T 5 , Sam threw his cards towards the muck.
The dealer declared that because the hand was all in, Farha’s cards would have to be retrieved and shown so the river could be dealt. Filippi objected as the hand had already touched the muck, and the floor man was called. The ruling was that the hand would have to be shown, and a dealer standing behind the table waiting to relieve the current dealer said that he had seen Farha’s cards and would repeat them to the director to verify the authenticity of the hand. After telling the floor man what he believed Farha’s cards were, the floor man turned over the K Q 9 6 . The river didn’t improve the hand.
Farha objected the ruling and requested to the floor man that a different dealer replace the current one. The floor man obliged, and a new dealer sat in. Johnny Chan vocally opposed this ruling, and forecasted that it would set precedence for future players to arbitrarily request new dealers for insignificant reasons. The floor man disagreed with Chan, and play continued with the new replacement dealer.
The first hand with the new dealer was a game change to deuce-to-seven triple draw, and an extra card being dealt resulted in a misdeal. Johnny Chan sarcastically requested a dealer change.
2-7 Triple Draw: William McMahon Vs. Brandon Adams
On the first draw round of a hand in the deuce-to-seven triple draw, both William McMahon and Brandon Adams drew two cards. After receiving his new replacements, Adams led out with a bet. McMahon raised, and Brandon deliberated while counting his remaining chips. He eventually folded, leaving himself with only 65,000 in chips, well below the tournament average.

Always a Comedian
Brad Garrett's comedy act at table 8 continues. In one hand the board showed A Q 2 9 , a player in seat six checked and Garrett moved all in. As the cameras and media gathered, the deaerl instructed Garrett to move a stack into the middle of the table. Garrett asked, "Just one stack?" then went to his neighbors chips and gestured as if he was going to move them in. Everyone had a laugh except seat six, who dejectedly mucked.
Nightmare Situation
Brandon Adams found himself in nightmare situation preflop, getting all of his money in with K K against A A . The flop of Q 9 6 improved neither player and things where looking even more dire for Adams. The turn completely flipped the situation when it brought the K giving Adams a dominating lead and leaving his opponent with only a 5% chance of winning the hand. The J on the river sealed Adam's victory and doubled him up to just over $50,000.
Molina Busts
Eric Molina, who got a lot of attention from camera crews at last years main event, will no grace the small screen for long in this years coverage. Molina was eliminated this past hour, and against precedent he left quietly and quickly after busting.
Ian Johns Eliminated
A player limped in early position and the cutoff limped behind as well. Ian Johns raised to $2,000 from the button. The early position player then asked Johns how much he had behind which was about $11,000. With this information he decided to just flat call, as did the cutoff. The flop came J 5 4 and the cutoff bet out $3,000. Johns raised all in and the cutoff made the call, showing 5 4 . Johns reluctantly turned over the A J and needed help. The turn and river came 2 4 , giving the cutoff an unnecessary full house and eliminating Johns.
SPA Doubles
Team Pokerstars member Steve Paul Ambrose (SPA to his friends and fanboys) has doubled up. He pushed A Q from middle position and was called by 8 7 from the big blind. The Board came A 2 2 5 10 , doubling him up to $7,000.
Preflop Posturing
Mark Vos raised to $1,350, he was called by a player in seat nine and raised by the big blind to $2,400. Vos reraised to $20,300 and the big blind over $50,000 more. Vos thought then folded. He asked the big blind to show one card, and he tabled the A .

Hour 7 Recap
Jul 06, '07
Official Numbers
Just following the dinner break the tournament officials announced the final numbers for the day. A total of 1,287 players began the day, and there are about 850 remaining. We will have wait and see how the other "Day Ones" stack up to this one.
Don't Want To Be Embarassed
Dustin Woolf used the attention his chipstack has gotten him. Woolf, with over $80,000 in chips, has been sought out by the ESPN cameras recently, and he prompted an opponent to fold in their presence. A player raised from middle position and Woolf defended from the big blind. The flop was J 8 7 , Woolf bet $2,100, and his opponent began to think. Woolf then said "You know this is gonna be on ESPN," grinning. His opponent folded and he raked in the pot.
Redrawn
In our Pro Blogs section Barry Greenstein has talked about the passivity of his table up to this point. Recently his table was upgraded when Brandon Adams was moved there. Greenstein needled him as he sat, "We asked for the worst player from your table, are you sure you want to own up to that?" Adams simply smiled and took his seat.
Jacob and Wahlroos Filled Out
Alex Jacob was knocked out when he made a full house with pocket fives only to run into his opponent's King's full. Jacob and his no longer magic hair have been eliminated from the Main Event. Thomas Wahlroos also ran into a full house to end his day. Wahlroos raised to $3,000 and the player in seat 7 called. The flop was 9 8 3 , Seat 7 checked, Wahlroos moved all in, and Seat 7 called. Wahlroos held Q Q , but his opponent had outflopped him with 9 9 . The turn was the 8 and the river the K , and Wahroos hit the rail.
Ma Outdrawn
Tony Ma, representative of www.PokerStars.com, raised to $1,600 from the button, the big blind moves all in for $1,150 more and Ma calls. Ma holds A J against the big blind's A 4 . The flop Q 7 5 kept Ma in the lead, but the turn and river were the K and the 8 , giving the big blind a runner-runner flush.
Big Shoes
Nolan Dalla just announced over the microphone that the first player to break $100,000 in chips (he actually has $120,000) is Tinton Oliver. A few players let out a few boos, but they should cheer up. Its a kiss of death to be chip leader early in the Main Event. Just ask Barry Greenstein about having that distinction in 2003, or better yet does anyone remember Dimitri Nobles?

Hour Two
Jul 10, '07
Many top professionals remained in the hunt for their first world championship bracelet, while a few remained in the hunt for their second as hour two transpired.
The Contenders
Among the first-time hopefuls were Mihn Ly, Jimmy Tran, Jeff Madsen, Dustin Woolf, Chris Viox, Can Kim Hua, Kenny Tran, Brandon Adams, Brad Garrett, Barry Greenstein, Tom Schneider, David “The Dragon” Pham, Steve Sung, Mark Seif, Patrik Antonius, Bruno Fitoussi, Jared Hamby, David Levi, Cliff Josephy, Paul Wasicka, Kirk Morrison, Robert Mizrachi, and “Miami” John Cernuto, who is seated at the featured table. Young stars, Joe Sebok and Evelyn Ng were seated together at table 17. While James Van Alstyne and Sabyl Cohen were seated together at table 67, Cohen was the last woman standing in the 2006 main event.
The Champions
There were also a number of former world champions left in the field. Two of them, Scotty Nguyen and Berry Johnston, were among the chip leaders by the end of the hour. While Huck Seed, Dan Harrington, and team www.pokerstars.com member Tom McEvoy also held strong.
10!
On a flop of Q 10 4 Brandon Adams bet $2,000 from the button and his opponent called in small blind. The turn brought the 10 and the small blind led out for $5,000. Adams raised to $14,000 and his opponent made the call. The river peeled yet another 10 off the deck, this time the 10 . The small blind cheked and Adams peered at his remaining stack. As Adams counted out the $25,000 that was left in front of his opponent, the small blind said, “Two hundred and eighteen thousand,” with a laugh escaping his lips and a grin spread across his face. Adams bet $5,000 and his opponent raised to $14,000. Adams made the call and flipped over Q 3 . His opponent turned over Q 10 for quad tens, and he took down the pot.
Killing Time
The 15 hour days of the main event can turn into quite a grind. One player found a chance to catch up on his reading in between hands of poker though. He pulled out a copy of a Brad Meltzer novel and intently indulged himself into the story. He didn’t even happen to notice the ESPN camera peering over his shoulder to read along with him.

The Night Train

Gus Makes a Move, Runs Into Monsters
Seat one raises to $48,000, Tuan Lam calls, and Gus Hanson makes the call. The flop comes 10 10 8 , Seat one checks, Lam checks and Hanson bets $110,000. Seat one moves all in, and Lam makes the call. Hanson looks suprised, then mucks his cards. Seat one has a stack that almost reaches $1,000,000, but Lam has him covered. Seat one tables 10 9 , but is in serious trouble when Lam rolls over 8 8 for the full house. The next two cards come K 2 , and seat one is eliminated while Lam cracks the $2,000,000 mark.
Hanson Strikes Back
It is folded to Tuan Lam and he raises to $50,000 from the cutoff. Gus Hanson decideds to defend his big blind, and reraises to $148,000. Lam reraises all in, and Hanson goes deep into the tank. He is surrounded by ESPN cameras as he thinks. He finally makes the call for his last $690,000, and shows down 10 10 . Lam tables Q Q , and Hanson is a huge dog. The flop comes K 10 8 , and Hanson spikes his two outer. The next two cards come 5 3 , and Hanson doubles up. All he could say was, "Sick, so so sick."
Brandon Adams Not Backing Down
Seat No. 1 raises to $48,000 and Adams immediately makes it $200,000 to go. Bill Edler is in the big blind and takes a long while before slowly mucking his cards. Seat No. 1 thinks for a bit before also folding. Very quietly and without showing down a hand, Brandon Adams has increased his stack to $1,380,000.
Isaac Haxton Picks On John Bird
John Bird limps from middle position and Isaac Haxton limps from the cutoff as well. The big blind checks his option and the three players see a 9 5 3 flop. Bird bets $40,000 and only Haxton makes the call. The turn is the 3 and both players quickly check. The river is the Q and Bird checks. Haxton sits still for a few moments before announcing a bet of $100,000. Bird goes into the tank, agonizing over his decision. Eventually Bird says, "Will you show me if I fold?" Haxton stays quiet for about thirty seconds and then says, "I guess." Bird makes the call and Haxton shows A 4 for the nut flush. After the hand, Haxton says, "Well that worked well enough."
The very next hand on a board of A J 3 Q Bird bets $100,000 and Haxton calls. The A hits the river and Bird quickly checks. Haxton bets $175,000 and Bird mucks, clearly frustrated.
Alaei and Hamby Win Without Showdown
Daniel Alaei and Jared Hamby both won some sizable pots this level without showdown. Alaei raised to $44,000 and Diego Cordovez called. The flop brought the A Q 6 and Cordovez quickly checked. Alaei bet $64,000 after careful consideration and Cordovez folded. Alaei picked up another big pot before the flop when he once again raised just short of three times the big blind and a deep stacked player small blind reraised to $120,000. After a moment Alaei quietly announced all-in. His opponent folded and Alaei took another big pot down. Player of the year contender Jared Hamby picked up $42,000 each from three opponents with an all-in raise preflop. Winning pots without contest is always favorable. As Bill Edler told a Cardplayer.com reporter, "It's good work if you can find it."

Main Event Update
Jul 14, '07
Josh Evans Eliminated 76th
Evans moves all with A 6 and is called by Pokerstars qualifier Jason Welsh with A 10 . The board comes K J 8 J 9 , making Welsh the nut flush and sending Evans home in 76th place.
Scott Freeman Wins Huge Pot
Avi Cohen limps from early position and Freeman raises to $100,000. Cohen makes the call and the flop comes K 9 6 . Cohen checks and Freeman bets $175,000. Cohen thinks then makes the call. The turn is the 10 and Cohen leads for $400,000. Freeman reraises all in for around $1,010,000, and Cohen quickly makes the call with 8 7 . Freeman rolls over 8 6 , and is drawing to a backdoor flush to stay alive. As the ESPN cameras crown the table, Freeman mouths, "one time" then looks up into the roof of the Amazon Room. The river brings the 5 , making Freeman's flush and shipping him a pot worth over $2,500,000 in chips.
The Great Dane Doubles Up... Without Showdown
Within one orbit Gus Hansen moved in four times and picked up at least $81,000 each time without even seeing a flop. He moved in from the small blind, the button, the cutoff and later from early position, and increased his stack from around $400,000 to nearly $800,000 in that orbit. When Hansen finally saw a flop from the small blind the board came down A A A and Gus was bet out of the pot. Hansen was still by far ahead of were he started the orbit, and it seems that his putting the pressure on his opponents has so far worked in his favor.
