Two of the three starting flights are now in the books for the 2023 Card Player Poker Tour bestbet Jacksonville $300,000 guaranteed $1,700 buy-in no-limit hold’em mystery bounty main event. Day 1B attracted 106 entries. By the end of the night, just 14 players remained, each having made the money and day 2.

Two prior CPPT bestbet Jacksonville main event winners ended day 1B atop the leaderboard. The top spot belongs to 2021 champion Ben Scrogins. The Jacksonville native (pictured above) bagged up 509,000. He surged up the chip counts late, edging into the top spot just in time for the final elimination of day 1B. That hand saw David Gallimore’s A-Q get outrun by the A-3 suited of Joey Burns. Both players flopped trip aces after the chips went in preflop, but Burns turned a three to make a winning full house and held from there to knock out Gallimore and bring play to an end for the day.

Scrogins secured his largest live tournament score yet just over two years ago, topping a field of 339 entries in a $2,500 buy-in tournament to earn $158,915. He’ll be looking to add another big score with a deep run in this event.

2017 CPPT bestbet Jacksonville main event winner Jared Reinstein sits just a couple of big blinds behind Scrogins with 502,000. Reinstein put together three consecutive top-ten finishes in the CPPT main event from 2016-2018, including his win in 2017 that saw him best a field of 378 entries in a $1,100 buy-in event to earn $75,714.

Reinstein scored a double knockout later in the day with pocket jacks holding against A-K and A-4 suited, then won several big hands down the stretch to add to his pile of chips.

Justin Swilling (417,000) and Jack Boswell (224,000) were the only other players from day 1B to end with more than 200,000.

It wasn’t the first time Reinstein had done well in a bestbet Jacksonville event. In 2014, Reinstein finished fourth in the $5,000 buy-in WPT bestbet Poker Scramble for $135,223.

In addition to winning last year’s CPPT main event, Reinstein also finished eighth in 2016, and 22nd in 2014.

The semi-professional poker player has now joined the field here on day 1A.

On the first hand back from break, Phil Pompper raised to 100,000 from under the gun and Greg Paryani called on the cutoff. Jared Reinstein then moved all in for more than 600,000 from the button.

Pompper then moved all in and Paryani folded pocket nines. Reinstein showed pocket tens, but he was well behind Pompper’s pocket queens.

The board ran out J32J3 and Pompper scooped the pot.

Reinstein, who won this event last year and has cashed four times in this event in six years, takes home $6,324 for tenth place.

With a flop of 552 Dennis Johnson checked and 2017 CPPT bestbet Jacksonville main event champion Jared Reinstein bet 21,000.

Johnson announced that he was all-in, and Reinstein went deep into the tank. Eventually he found a call with the 99. Johnson was making a move with the J3. The turn was the 8 and the river the 6 and Reinstein doubled up to 248,000.

Eckert immediately called with pocket aces, and Reinstein needed help with his JJ.

Jared Reinstein Wins Card Player Poker Tour bestbet Jacksonville Main Event

Jared Reinstein, a semi-professional poker player from Tallahassee, has won the $1,100 buy-in Card Player Poker Tour bestbet Jacksonville main event for $75,714.

Reinstein outlasted a starting field of 378 entries, which created a prize pool of $366,660. The event easily surpassed the $200,000 guarantee. Last year’s event had a $280,330 prize pool from 289 entrants. Amazingly, Reinstein finished eighth in last year’s event.

Jeremy Reed, of Lexington, SC, was able to survive with a short stack for a good portion of the final table to finish second to Reinstein.

There was a final-table deal. When play was three-handed, Reinstein, Reed and Alexis Courtois agreed to give Reinstein first place money ($75,714), while Reed and Courtois would split second place money ($53,018). Both Reed and Courtois were severely short-stacked with just a handful of big blinds, while Reinstein had a monster stack.

Courtois was eliminated in short order after the agreement, and then Reed was felted in second a couple of hands later. On the final hand, Reed was all in with K-Q off suit against Reinstein’s A-7. The board ran out A-6-2-9-5, giving Jared the pot and the win.

Reinstein played extremely solid poker at the final table. He was on the right side of a coin flip with A-K against fifth-place finisher Bob Woodward’s pocket sevens. It was for about half of the 9,450,000 chips in play. Reinstein flopped a king and it held to give him a massive chip lead.

Reinstein entered the final table sixth out of nine. Going into day 2, he was 66th in chips out of 81, so he did a good job surviving throughout the four-day event.

The tournament began on Friday and featured two starting days.

The river was the 6 and Reinstein checked again. Corson bet 3,200 and Reinstein went into the tank. After about 30 seconds, he made the call.

“You’re good,” said Corson, without turning his cards over.

Reinstein wasn’t showing either, so Corson flipped up the A.

“I called the bet,” said Reinstein, and Corson reluctantly showed the J as his other card.

Reinstein then turned over QQ and dragged the pot, increasing his stack to 33,000.

Woods quickly folded, and Stites tabled the JJ for top set. Reinstein needed to go runner-runner to double up.

The 6 on the turn had Reinstein drawing dead. A meaningless 9 landed on the river, and Reinstein went to collect $7,627 for his efforts.
