Zac Stites, an industrial engineer from Orlando, has won the $1,100 buy-in Card Player Poker Tour bestbet Jacksonville main event for $61,136. The event easily surpassed the $200,000 guarantee.
The 25-year-old outlasted a starting field of 289 players, which created a prize pool of $280,330. Mark Smith, a golf caddy from Naples, FL, was able to survive with a short stack for much of the final table to finish second. There was no final-table deal.
On the final hand of their heads-up match, Mark Smith shoved for 435,000 with the J9, and Stites, who was sitting with nearly 6.8 million, insta-called with the A3.
The dealer put out the 542 flop, which gave Stites a wheel and a near lock on the title. The J on the turn had Smith drawing dead on the river. The 2 completed the board, and Smith was gone in second, collecting $42,986 for his efforts.
Stites played solid poker at the final table, but he was no doubt helped out by a cooler against poker pro Brandon Miller. The action begin with Miller opening preflop; Stites three-bet, and Miller flatted.
On a board reading AQ3, Miller check-shoved to put Stites all in for 1.15 million. Stites insta-called with the AA for top set. Miller exposed the AK and needed runner-runner for Broadway to win the hand.
The 8 on the turn was of no help, and a meaningless 5 landed on the river to send Miller down to just 200,000. Stites was up to about 2.7 million. He basically coasted the rest of the way thru a speedy three-hour final table.
Stites entered the final table third out of nine. Going into day 2, he was second in chips out of 69, so he was one of the big stacks thru a lot of the tournament.
The four-day tournament began on Friday and featured two starting days.
Brian Woods, a local poker dealer in Orange Park, had the chip lead going into the final table, but he ended up finishing fifth when Stites busted him.

John Redlitz was all in for his tournament life with A-J against the pocket nines of massive chip leader Zac Stites. The nines held, and Redlitz was knocked out in third.
John Swope and Zac Stites had been playing a lot of pots together over the past hour or so, and the final one between them began with Swope raising to 150,000 from UTG.
Stites called from the button, and the blinds folded.
The flop fell A107, and Swope open-shoved for about 1 million. Stites insta-called with the A10 for top two.
Swope tabled a dominated 107.
The turn was the 10, which gave both players a full house. Swope was now drawing dead. The meaningless 9 on the river gave Stites the hand.

The next hand, Zac Stites opened to 85,000, and Woods shoved for 180,000. It was folded back around to Stites, and he made the call with the KJ.
Woods tabled the A3.
The 1072 flop was safe for Woods, but the J on the turn put Stites in the lead. The 9 on the river didn’t change anything, and Woods was gone.
On a board reading AQ3, Brandon Miller put Zac Stites all in for 1.15 million. Stites insta-called with the AA for top set. Miller exposed the AK and needed runner-runner for Broadway to win the hand.

Zac Stites opened to 85,000 at the 20,000-40,000 blind level, and Mark Smith shoved for 320,000. It was folded back to Stites, and he called with the 109.
Smith tabled the KQ.
The board ran out 83352, to give Smith the double.
Brittney Loy’s short stack was in the middle versus John Swope. Loy had the AJ and needed help against Swope’s AK.
The flop fell 975, which was of no help to Loy. The 2 on the turn gave her a flush draw. The glimmer of hope was short-lived, as the 2 on the river sent her to the rail in seventh.
Jared Reinstein shoved in early position for 170,000 with A-10 offsuit and it was folded around to Zac Stites on the button. He made the call, and it was on Brian Woods in the small blind. He called as well. Mark Smith folded from the big blind.
The flop fell J85, which was a whole lot of nothing for Reinstein. Woods checked, and Stites bet 200,000.
Woods quickly folded, and Stites tabled the JJ for top set. Reinstein needed to go runner-runner to double up.
The 6 on the turn had Reinstein drawing dead. A meaningless 9 landed on the river, and Reinstein went to collect $7,627 for his efforts.
