Hour Three Recap
Jul 10, '07
The small field returned from a 20 minute break following the completion of level seven and got right back to business. There were several notable eliminations in the last hour including Tony G, Dan Harrington and Brad Garret.
Stone Cold?
No, not that Steve Austin, but his doppleganger is in the field today and is currently the chip leader. Austin has $360,000 in chips, putting him a full $100,000 ahead of the next largest chip stack. If Austin keeps plowing through the field and building his already monster stack, we may have another Jamie Gold on our hands.
Kings Prove Un-Seif
Mark Seif made his exit in the last hour and is no longer in the pack. Down to just $25,000, Seif pushed all in preflop and got only one caller. Seif showed K
K
and looked eager to double up. His opponent flipped up 10
10
and was well behind. The flop came 8
6
2
and Seif looked comfortable in his position. The turn was the 3
and both players waited for the river. The river brought the 10
and Seif jumped up in disbelief. Unable to comprehend what had just happened, Mark Seif exited the tournament area quietly.
No Final Table This Year
The runnner-up in the 2006 Main Event, Paul Wasicka surely came into this year's Main Event with high hopes of a repeat performance. There will be no final table appearance in Wasicka's near future as has been eliminated on day two. Wasicka was all in with 8
8
against an opponent with A
J
. The flop took most of the mystery out of it when it came A
A
Q
. Wasicka knew he was beat and didn't pay attention to the turn and river which were the 2
and K
respectively.
Not Afraid of Big Slick
Joe Sebok's day has only been three hours long but already he has experienced more swings than he usually does in an entire tournament. Sebok was down around $15,000 again when he pushed all in preflop with pocket queens. His only opponent in the hand showed A-K and Sebok looked uneasy at the two over cards. The flop brought Sebok's worst fear when it came down K-10-9. The turn was a three and Sebok looked ready to leave. The river was nice to Sebok when it brought a jack, completing his straight and putting Sebok back in the lead. Sebok doubled to around $34,000 and narrowly avoided elimination.
Just a few hands later, Sebok got tangled up again for all of his chips, this time with Evenlyn Ng. The player in seat six raised to $4,000 preflop and Ng reraises to $15,000. Sebok looked at his cards and said, "$15,000? Hmm. I'm all in." Sebok pushed for about $25,000 more and Ng didn't hesitate to call. Ng exposed A
K
and Sebok showed A
A
. The board came J
10
5
9
7
and Sebok was able to avoid enough hearts to take down the massive pot. Sebok more than doubled to $86,000. Sebok immediately left his table and ran to tell his father, Barry Greenstein of Team
Pokerstars, about his good fortune. Speaking of good fortune, Greenstein has been able to build his stack to over $110,000 as well. After a roller coaster first few hours and a long way to go, Sebok can finally sit back, having earned a little bit of breathing room.
