Your Range, Sir?
"What do you think your range is?" asked Daniel O'Brien, after Chris Bjorin reraised him all in. O'Brien had raised to 24,000 from the button and Bjorin had repopped all in from the small blind for about 80,000. O'Brien was joking with the elderly Swede, perhaps trying to buy some time as he contemplated a decision. Finally, he elected to make the call with KQ, and it was the right one, as Bjorin showed K10. The flop was AQ8, and a collective groan welled up from the table. Sure enough, the 9 on the turn made Bjorin the nuts, shipping him a pot worth about 170,000. O'Brien is still healthy, though, with about 150,000 in chips.
Big Draw Versus Big Pair
Scott Preston raised in early position to 24,000 and the seat 8 player called him from the button. The flop came KJ6 and Preston pushed all in for 53,500. Seat 8 made the call. Preston, with AQ, had nothing but a boat load of outs against his opponent's AK, for top pair, top kicker. The turn was the Q, meaning any ten, queen, or club on the river would ship Preston a share of the pot. The 10 on the river fit the bill, and Preston chipped up to over 150,000.
The Classic
Derek Buonano and Rick LeNoble got it all in before the flop, Buonano with QQ, LeNoble with AK. The flop: A54. The turn: 6. And the river: Q. Buonano hit his set on the end, only to realize that it had made LeNoble the nut flush. LeNoble took down a pot worth more than 200,000, and Buonano was eliminated.
