Scott Demoulin Leads Day 1A Card Player Poker Tour Wynn Main EventMar 15, '15 A total of 83 entries were put up in the first of two starting flights of the Card Player Poker Tour Wynn Classic main event. The players began the first stretch of a three day process to scoop up their piece of the $300,000 guaranteed prize pool in the $2,100 no-limit hold’em tournament, and when the night was over only 20 remained. Scott Demoulin bagged the chiplead with 257,400, while Stephen Graner and Gary Sewell were not far behind with 232,700 and 233,300 respectively. A few players who came – and left – throughout the day included Kenna James, Matt Stout, Dan Sindelar, Ben Palmer, Eric Baldwin, Matt Berkey and Kevin Calenzo. Flight 1B will begin Monday at 12pm PST and will play 10 one-hour levels with a one hour dinner break and 15 minute breaks every two levels. Player Tags: Matt Berkey, Scott Demoulin Matt Stouts Heads Back to California, Matt Berkey Still LeadingMar 15, '15 The field has been narrowed down to just 36 players in the post-dinner break levels. Matt Stout, who actually had chips in tournaments in two states simultaneously, hit the rail. Stout has a stack of 51,000 at the World Series of Poker Circuit $1,675 main event at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles, and he used the multiple starting days to his advantage to take a shot at the Wynn today. Having been eliminated in Nevada, Stout is now on his way back to his chips in California.
Ben Palmer and Kenna James were also eliminated after the dinner break. A few hands: Eric Blair Folds His Hand Eric Blair raised to 1,200 from the button and the players in the big blind and under the gun called. The three saw a flop of A53 and action checked to Blair. Blair bet 1,700, the big blind folded and the player under the gun called to see the Q on the turn. Both players checked again and saw the A on the river. The player under the gun bet 5,500 and Blair mucked his cards. Samantha Cohen Bested With the board reading 8798 Samantha Cohen was facing a bet of 10,000 from an opponent. Cohen took a few moments to contemplate her next move before calling. The river was the Q and Cohen checked. Her opponent thought over his options for a little bit of time before throwing out two 5,000 chips. Cohen snap-called and her opponent showed 109. Cohen did not show her cards and her opponent took the pot. Rene Angelil Eliminated by Matt Berkey Matt Berkey has amassed a monster stack of 193,000, a small portion of it coming from Rene Angelil. We missed most of the action but Angelil was all-in on a J95 board with J10 and Berkey called with KQ. The board completed 97 and Angelil was eliminated. Player Tags: Kenna James, Matt Berkey, Matt Stout, Eric Blair, Samantha Cohen Berkey Makes The CallMar 17, '15 Matt Berkey opened to 1,200 and only received calls from the players in the blinds. The flop brought the J106 and all three players checked. The turn was the 5 and it checked to Berkey, who bet 2,500. The player in the small blind clicked it back to 5,000. Berkey made the call after some thought and the river paired the board with the 10. The player in the small blind bet 5,000 and Berkey again thought it over, eventually making the call with the A6. His opponent could only produce the K9, so Berkey raked in the pot and increased his stack to 49,000. Player Tags: Matt Berkey |

More Late EntriesJul 14, '13 The board shows 141 players in today’s Day 1 flight and quite the collection of professionals decided to enter late. Three-time WSOP final tablist this summer Matt Berkey has decided to sit down, and he will look to add to the $471,017 he already managed to win since the start of the WSOP. Right next to Berkey we spotted Dutch pro Paul Berende who flew to Las Vegas last minute. Berende only played the Main Event at the WSOP and this could very well only be his second tournament of the trip. Berende finished runner up earlier this year in WPT Baden for €130,000. One table over we’ve spotted Bryn Kenney who recently cashed in the WSOP Main Event. Kenney also cashed in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship for $147,882 for his 12th place finish. Eugene Katchalov also decided to enter late. The Ukrainian American, who’s in the best shape of his life, made the final table of the $5,000 Pot Limit Hold’em earlier this summer. In total Katchalov has $7.4 in career tournament earnings and that makes him one of the biggest winners in today’s field. Katchalov has a WPT and WSOP victory on his resume but also EPT final tables and a Super High Roller victory at the PCA in 2011. Player Tags: Eugene Katchalov, Matt Berkey, Bryn Kenney, Paul Berende Berkey OutJul 15, '13 We don’t have the details, but Matt Berkey was knocked out. Duhamel Joins the Top of the Leaderboard Jonathan Duhamel raised under-the-gun to 210,000 with Filippo Candio making the call from the button and Patrick Eskandar calling from the small blind. All three players checked the flop and on the turn the board read K369. Eskandar checked and Duhamel bet 360,000. Candio called and Eskandar folded. The river was the 10 and Duhamel bet 215,000. Candio raised to 715,000 but Duhamel called pretty quickly. Candio announced “sevens” and Duhamel showed KJ and took the pot. Duhamel has now crossed the 10 million chip threshold. Senti Scores a Double Matthew Bucaric raised to 200,000 under-the-gun and got a call from Jason Senti, Dag Palovic, and Robert Pisano. The flop came AJ5 and it checked over to Senti who bet 525,000. After two folds, Bucaric check-raised all-in and Senti called off his last 2,100,000 and was at risk. Senti showed the AJ and was way ahead of Bucaric’s AK. The 6 was the turn card and the 2 fell on the river to double up to 6,100,000. Clements Doubles Through Statz Scott Clements shoved all-in for 2,070,000 after a raise of 200,000 from Benjamin Statz. It folded back to Statz who made the call with KK and was ahead of Clements AK. The flop was kind to Clements when it came A105 and gave him the lead. The 3 on the turn and the 7 river card sealed the deal for Clements to double up to just over 4,000,000. Cuong Nguyen Takes Over Chip Lead With Monster Pot Brandon Steven raised to 225,000 from late position and got calls from Theo Jorgensen in the small blind and Cuong Nguyen from the big blind. They saw a flop of K59 and after both blinds checked, Steven bet out 525,000. Jorgensen made the call and Nguyen made it 1,500,000. Steven got out of the way before Jorgensen made it 4,000,000 and Nguyen moved all-in for 7,620,000. Jorgensen called and there was 19,520,000 in the middle. Jorgensen showed A3, good for the nut flush draw and Nguyen tabled the KJ, good for top pair. The turn was the 10, missing Jorgensen and keeping Nguyen in the lead. The river was the 3 and Jorgensen lost the chip lead and Nguyen was left stacking a gigantic pile of chips. Nguyen now took over the chip lead with 19,520,000.
