Level Two: Nguyen Reloads
Jul 01, '10
Blinds: 50-100
Players Remaining: 313
Average Chip Count:
Notable Eliminations:
None
Big Hands:
The Master Of Reloads
Men Nguyen was involved in a hand with two other players. The board had run out AKJ55 and Nguyen moved all in.
Both of his opponents called and turned over a broadway straight. Nguyen could only show trip fives and he had to use his first reload chip, resetting him to 7,500.
Hollink’s Riverboat Cruises
Picking up the action on a flop of 765, the player in seat 6 bet 700 and Rob Hollink made the call.
The turn was the K and seat 6 bet 2,000 after Hollink had checked again. Hollink made the call and the 5 fell on the river.
Hollink then led out with 3,000 and his opponent made a reluctant call. Hollink tabled 9766 for a full house and his opponent mucked 98 face up. Hollink took the pot and he was around 25,000 with two reload chips remaining.
Chiu’d Up
Picking up the action on the turn, the board read 543J and the player in seat 5 moved all in. David Chiu made the call and the players turned up their cards:
Chiu: KK55
Seat 5: 8542
Chiu flopped a set while his opponent had two pair and a straight draw. The river was the 2, giving no help to seat 5 and he had to use his first reload chip. Chiu took the pot and he was at 16,000 with all three reloads intact.

Perry Green Eliminated in 8th Place ($38,549)
Erik Seidel limped in from small blind and Perry Green checked his option. The flop came AQ10 and Seidel bet 45,000 and Green called. The 9 fell on the turn and Seidel checked. Green moved all in and Seidel called with the J8AJ for a flush. Green exposed the JJ46 and was drawing dead. The meaningless 4 fell on the river and Green was gone.
Rob Hollink Eliminated in 7th Place ($50,014)
Joe Ritzie opened to 70,000 and Rob Hollink called. The flop came 972 and Hollink moved all in. Ritzie called with the A347 for a pair of sevens and the nut low draw. Erica Schoenberg
Big Hands:
Cold Deck Does In Liu
Picking up the action on the flop, J.J. Liu and Allen Kessler were involved in a hand. The board was J75 and Kessler fired 10,000 after Liu checked.
Liu then check-raised to 45,000 and Kessler responded by moving all in for 112,000. Liu made the call and showed down KK but was in deep trouble against Kessler’s AA.
The turn was the 9 and the river was the 4 and Liu was sent to the rail just after dinner.
Hollink’s Ladies Shown The Door
Rob Hollink found himself all in against Johaness Strassman after a flop of J95.
Hollink held QQ but was behind Strassman’s pocket rockets, AA.
The turn was the 2 and the river was the 4 and Hollink was another victim of a cold deck after the dinner break.
Matusow Chipping Back Up
Mike Matusow used pocket aces to double up against Josh Tieman’s pocket queens right after the dinner break.
A few hands later, the board read Q656 and Matusow faced a bet of 10,500 from his opponent in the small blind.
Matusow answered by raising to 22,000. His opponent mucked and Matusow took in another pot. He started the level with just over 30,000 but worked all the way back up to 85,000 with those two wins.

Pot-Limit Hold’em
Kevin MacPhee made it 60,000 to go from the button and Jose-Luis Velador called from the big blind.
Velador checked to MacPhee on a flop of K65. MacPhee bet 80,000 and Velador check-raised to 200,000. MacPhee pushed all in for half a million and Velador thought a while and called. Their hands:
Velador: K3
MacPhee: 77
Velador’s kings were ahead of MacPhee’s pocket sevens. The turn brought the 10 and MacPhee was down to two sevens for his outs. But the A fell on the river and Velador exploded to 1.5 million in chips as MacPhee was gone in 5th, making $62,791.
Pot-Limit Omaha
Gray Finishes in Fourth ($85,030)
On a flop of K82 Craig Gray moved the rest of his short stack all in and was instantly called by Jose-Luis Velador. Their hands:
Gray: QQ84
Velador: AK92
Velador’s two pair was ahead, and when the K hit on the turn he had a full house. The A finished the board and Gray was gone in 4th place, taking $85,030 of the prize pool.
Pot-Limit Omaha
Hollink Knocked Out in 3rd ($116,359)
Rob Hollink called a 80,000 raise preflop from Jose-Luis Velador and everyone else got out of the way.
The flop came Q83 and Hollink found himself all in for his tournament life. Their hands:
Hollink: Q1084
Velador: KK97
Despite the queen on the flop, Velador held the lead with pocket kings. The turn was the 6 and the 3 finished the board, giving Velador the pot and knocking Hollink out in 3rd place, winning $116,359.
With that, Velador took a commanding chip going into heads up against David Chiu.

Shawn Buchanan: 238,000
Robin Larsson: 194,000
Eliminations: Matt Giannetti, Bradley Berman, Ross Boatman, Thayer Rasmussen, Alberto Romero, Dan Shak, Jeff Lisandro
Big Hands:
Ross Boatman Eliminated
Ross Boatman and Clonie Gowen limped into a dry pot when Nick Gibson raised to 16,500 behind them. Boatman reraised all in for about 40,000, Gowen fodled and Gibson made the call. Both players turned over their cards.
Boatman: AKK6
Gibson: AA58
Board: QJJ37
Boatman got it in with kings agianst Gibson's pocket aces. Both players flopped a pair of jacks, giving them each two pair, Gibson of course having the nut two pair. The turn and river failed to improve Boatman's hand an he was eliminated at the begining of Level 13.
Kido Pham Doubles Through Rob Hollink
Rob Hollink raised to 7,000 from under the gun and got four callers. The flop came 986, and Hollink bet 9,000. Kido Pham raised to 20,000, the other two players folded, and Hollink called. The turn was the A, and Hollink bet enough to put Pham all in. Pham called for the rest of his chips and Hollink had him covered. Both players turned over their cards.
Hollink: A1042
Pham: A1096
Pham flopped two pair (nines and sixes) and turned aces up (aces and nines). Hollink flopped the nut flush, an inside straight draw, and what he thought was overcards, turning top pair to go along with all of his draws. The river was the case ace (A), giving Hollink trip aces to the ten, and giving Pham a full boat, aces full of nines. Pham raked the pot and slightly more than doubled up to 160,000 while Hollink fell down to just under 100,000.
Dario Alioto Chips Up, Eliminates Thayer Rasmussen and Alberto Romero in Same Hand
Alberto Romero raised to 10,500 from middle position and both Thayer Rasmussen and Dario Alioto made the call. The flop came Q96, and Romero fired 36,000 chips into the pot. Alioto raised to 144,000 and both Rasmussen and Romero called all in. With their tournament lives on the line, Alioto had them both covered as all three players turned over their cards.
Alioto: AJ109
Romero: AA104
Rasmussen: J1098
Alito flopped a a pair of nines, the nut straight draw and the nut re-draw while Romero held the over pair (aces) and Rasmussen made the open-ended straight draw and a club flush draw to go along with his pair of nines on the flop. Rasmussen's straight draw was useless however as Alioto held the same jack-ten straight draw and the ace, meaning that if the king came, Alioto would have the higher straight to the ace. The turn was the 9, giving both Rasmussen and Alioto trip nines, Alioto leading with the ace kicker. The river was the 2, and Dario Alioto had just eliminated both Thayer Rasmussen and Alberto Romero in the same hand, climbing up the chip ladder to the no. 2 spot with roughly 450,000.

Eliminations: Noah Boeken, Rafi Amit, Chau Giang, Bill Chen, Scott Clements
BIg Hands:
Rafi Amit Eliminated by Shawn Buchanan
All in pre-flop with AKK4, Rafi Amit was called by Shawn Buchanan holding JJ108. The flop came KQ9, giving Amit top set (kings) while flopping Buchanan the nut straight to the king. Amit would need to fill up here to double up, or go runner-runner to chop the same straight as Buchanan. The board failed to pair and Rafi Amit hit the rail early on in the second level of Day 2.
Noah Boeken Eliminated
Noah Boeken was eliminatd earlier this round when he was all in on the turn with a set of aces against the straight draw of Richard Harroch. Harroch made his straight on the river and Noah Boekn was next to hit the rail.
Chau Giang Eliminated by Rob Hollink
In a three-way pot between Chau Giang, Rob Hollink and Nenad Medic, Giang got it all in on the turn on a board of Q43K. Medic checked, Hollink bet 40,000, Giang called all in for 35,000 and Medic folded. Giang turned over KQQ10 for trip queens, but Hollink showed AJJ10 for the nut flush. The river was the 6, and without a pair on the board, Giang failed to fill up and was subsequently eliminated from the tournament.

Rich Chase - 260,000
Tam "Tommy" Hang - 240,000
Eric Froehlich - 230,000

Average Stack: 311,450
Eliminations:
15th – Michael Mizrachi
16th – Matt Woodward
17th – Tex Barch
18th – Kieu Duong
Big Hands and Storylines:
Bloch Wins Monster Pot; Duong Eliminated
Rob Hollink made it 20,000 to go from middle position. Brock “t soprano” Parker, on Hollink’s left, upped it to 30,000. Then, to Parker’s left, Kieu Duong moved in for 34,000. As if this wasn’t enough action, Andy Bloch popped it up to 40,000. Both Hollink and Parker called. The flop was 1074; Hollink checked, Parker checked, Bloch bet, and the other two called. The action followed the same pattern on the J turn. Bloch bet the 5 on the river and this time both Hollink and Parker folded. Bloch’s pocket kings were enough to take down the massive pot and Duong was eliminated.
Tex is Toast
Tex Barch was eliminated in 17th place when his AQ failed to hold against Jerrod Ankenman’s AT. The board rolled out 102284 and Barch unhappily called down to the river, giving away the last of his chips. Though Barch's night is through, Ankenman is very much in contention with his 330,000.
Matt Woodward Eliminated in 16thPlace
Matt Woodward was all-in pre-flop against J.C. Tran. Tran, on the button, showed an understandably weak 87 and was chasing against Woodward’s AQ. Woodward remained stoic on the J53 flop, but his demeanor changed to reflect the 8 on the turn; he rolled his eyes and nodded his head in a resigned fashion. The K on the river sealed Woodward’s exit and he was eliminated in 16th place, taking home $25,615.

Average Stack: 242,200
Eliminations:
19th place – Todd “Dan Druff” Witteles
20th place – Thomas Johnston
21st place – Hoyt Corkins
22nd place – Spencer Lawrence
Big Hands and Storylines:
Corkins Eliminated in 21st Place
Apparently Aaron Katz doesn’t have premium hands all the time. Hoyt Corkins found this out the hard way when his QQ was cracked by Katz’s 65 on a JT63K board. Katz, who won a $1,500 limit hold’em event in 2004, is on an excellent track to claim his second bracelet. He is currently the chip leader with 530,000.
Thomas Johnston Eliminated in 20th Place
Thomas Johnston declared his “pot-committedness” before the hand as almost his entire stack would be consumed by the big blind. He was still in good spirits as he saw Jerrod Ankenman and Tex Barch cap the betting pre-flop. The flop was AJ5 and both Barch and Ankenman checked. Barch bet the J turn and Ankenman folded. The river was the 5c. When Barch showed AA Johnston, having not looked at his cards claimed, “I could have pocket jacks.” He flipped his cards one at a time. The first was the 5, eliciting a roar from the table. Unfortunately for Johnston, his second card was the 10 and he had to go, eliminated in 20th place.
Hollink Continues to Straighten Out
Eric Froehlich raised from middle position and the only caller was Rob Hollink in the big blind. The flop was 1087 and Hollink check-called a bet from Froehlich. The turn was a 6 and Hollink checked. “EFro” bet and the man from Groningen put out a raise. Froehlich called and the pair saw the 4 river. Hollink bet and Froehlich called. The two showed:
Hollink: A9
Froehlich: AA
Hollink’s second straight in as many levels has him up to 250,000, coincidentally, the same amount as Froehlich.

Big Hands and Storylines:
Katz True To His Word
Aaron Katz has been talking constantly about how he has yet to show down a bad hand, and, in a pot against Jerrod Ankenman, he backed up his banter. Ankenman raised from middle position and Katz re-raised on his left to 1,800. Action folded back around to Ankenman who made the call. Ankenman check-raised the AJ3 flop and Katz called. Ankenman bet the J turn and Katz cagily raised, drawing a call from Ankenman. The dealer put out the 3 on the river and Ankenman check-called. Katz tabled AK and took down the pot. Maybe next time someone at the table will respect Katz’s raise. Until then, Katz will be sitting behind a stack of 320,000 chips. Ankenman still has 250,000.
Hanging Around
Andy Bloch raised from the small blind and Tommy Hang in the big blind called. Hang raised Bloch’s bet on the Q52 flop and Bloch called. Action on the turn and river – K and 3 – went check-bet-call, and Hang won the pot with two pair, showing KQ. Hang has now climbed to 180,000 while Bloch, still the chip leader, is down to 350,000
River Dagger Cripples Lawrence
Rob Hollink raised from late position and the only caller was Spencer Lawrence in the big blind. The flop came Q95 and Lawrence bet out. Hollink raised, Lawrence 3-bet, and Hollink just called. The A on the turn was followed by a bet by Lawrence and another call by Hollink. Lawrence bet the river and the Dutchman raised him. After a minute of thought, Lawrence made the call. Hollink tabled the nuts: JT. After the hand Lawrence was left with only 20,000 while Hollink grew his stack to 165,000.

Average Stack: 140,650
Eliminations:

Justin Bonomo
Thomas Wahlroos
Big Hands and Storylines:
Parker Busts Bonomo
Despite doubling up a few hands earlier against Eric Froehlich, Justin Bonomo would see all of his chips disappear against Brock “t soprano” Parker. Rob Hollink raised from the cutoff and Bonomo, with only 15,000 total chips, raised it up. Parker 4-bet from the big blind, Hollink called, and Bonomo tossed his final few chips in. Hollink called Parker’s bet on the J62 flop, but folded to a second-barrel on the 2 turn. With that, Parker took down the small side pot, but he still needed to best Bonomo’s holding in order to claim the sizeable main pot. Parker showed AK, and ace-king high was well ahead of Bonomo’s A9. The river was the 7 and Bonomo found himself out 10 places before the money.
Spencer Lawrence Giveth, and Spencer Lawrence Taketh Away
Thomas Wahlroos was all-in for his final 11,500 against Spencer Lawrence. Lawrence had a meager Q7, but was racing against the Finn’s 55. The board was a safe one for Wahlroos – K629K – and he raked in a pot of 27,000. That relief was short-lived however. Although their table was broken when they reached 36 players, the duo found themselves seated together once again at a new table. It was here that Lawrence’s pocket nines would hold up against Wahlroos’s pocket sevens. Wahlroos, who had earlier been commiserating with Rob Hollink about bubbling in tournaments, has a new story to add to his collection.
Musical Chairs
Another significant result of having a table break was that Brock Parker took a seat to J.C. Tran’s left. The duo have 500,000 chips between them, with Tran holding a 270k to 230k advantage over Parker. Despite having Parker outchipped, Tran can not be happy with this recent turn of events.
Muy Bueno
Patrick Bueno, chip leader at the start of the day, had seen his stack dwindle to a measly 20,000 before he found himself all-in on the A77 flop. Both he and his opponent had an ace, but Bueno’s queen kicker nipped his opponent’s ten. The turn and river blanked and Bueno found himself smiling again, brandishing a stack of 50,000.

Hollink: A5
Ankenman: 107
Board: A543Q
Hollink won the hand with aces up and he is the champion of the $10,000 limit hold'em world championship. He was awarded $496,931 and his first gold bracelet. Ankenman was awarded $307,380 for the runner-up finish.

Jassinowsky raised and Ankenman reraised (three bets). Hang folded and Jassinowsky reraied (four bets), Ankenman called. Down to his last couple of thousand chips, Jassinowsky moved all in dark. The river was the 8 and Ankenman called the all in dark bet. Jassinowsky turned over A-J while Ankenman showed K-J. Jassinowsky doubeld up this hand.

The turn was the 5, and once again Jassinowsky bet and Katz called. The river was the 5, and still Jassinowsky bet and Katz called. Jassinowsky turned over pocket aces and Katz threw his hand into the muck. Jassinowsky wins a big pot for over 200,000 shortly after doubling up a few hands prior.
Broc Parker Doubles Through Cy Jassinowsky
Brock Parker raised and Cy Jassinowsky reraised. Parker made it three-bets to go and Jassinowsky just called. The flop came J102, and Jassinowsky checked to Parker who bet. Jassinowsky raised (check-raise) and Parker moved all in. Jassinowsky called and the players turned over their hands.

Ankenman: QQ
Hollink: 1010
Ankenman was in a good spot with queens against tens and the turn and river brought the 9 and the 8, giving Ankenman the check mark and allowing him to triple up.
Cy Jassinowsky Eliminated in 8th place ($66,599)
Andy Bloch raised from the button and Rob Hollink reraied from the small blind. Tommy Hang made it four bets and Cy Jassinowsky called all in. Bloch folded while Hollink made the call. The flop came K96, and Hang bet and Hollink folded. Hang and Jassinowsky turned over their cards.

Rich Chase - 260,000
Tam "Tommy" Hang - 240,000

Eliminations:
Erick Lindgren
