Ciaran O'Leary Bio

When Ciaran O?Leary made his first World Series of Poker cash in a $1,500 no-limit hold?em event in 2007, he didn?t just make the money, he won it. Along with his victory, he broke the record for winning the tournament with the largest non-main event field in history. Although this win gained him a lot of recognition, he is no stranger to the game.

O?Leary was born on October 27, 1973, in Ireland. He began playing at the age of nine with his friends. The first time he had ever watched the WSOP was in 1989. He was in a bar with his friends and watched Phil Hellmuth win the main event.

?Guys, one of these days you are going to see my face up there. I?m going to win one of these events,? O?Leary had said to his friends.

When he moved to the United States in 1997, he wasted no time and began making the yearly journey to the WSOP. He, like many other players, came for the side action and satellites. He played with some of today?s best players, who were then unknowns as well, including J.C. Tran and Nam Le. He has won numerous events in the Lucky Chance tournament series and has also cashed in a World Poker Tour preliminary event in Reno, Nevada.

O?Leary currently resides in Seattle, Washington, with his two sons and wife. He owns his own construction company called O?Leary Building and Remodeling, but poker remains an important part of his income.
