Born in New York in 1961, Robert Varkonyi got into poker while attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The former investment banker turned poker professional burst onto the poker scene when he won the 2002 World Series of Poker Main Event. Varkonyi took home $2,000,000 for his victory.
Varkonyi now lives in Great Neck, New York with his wife Olga, also a poker player. He has since disappeared from the tournament circuit, only making a few appearances each year.
