Mixed Tournament Continues
Jun 24, '07
One full level has been completed following the dinner break and as a result of the general discontent with playing in the Poker Pavilion, the tournament has now been moved inside into the Amazon Room. The players returned from their dinner break to find their chips had already been bagged and were being moved inside. Many players were unhappy about having their chips bagged without them being present and more than one player questioned his stack upon returning. Suspicions were calmed and play began shortly after it was scheduled to.
With the blinds at $75-$150, the beginning of this level was No Limit play. As expected, the action picked up quickly and many players were sent to the rail not long after returning. There are currently 260 players still competing and not among them are Nam Le, Humberto Brenes, Joe Reitman and Barny Boatman.
Humberto Brenes was eliminated when he pushed all in from early position with A
Q
and was called by the player in seat six with A
K
. The board came K
4
3
and Brenes knew it was all over. Needing running queens or hearts, the board bricked out for Brenes when it came 8
9
.
Barny Boatman was eliminated in a heads up hand with Roland De Wolfe halfway through the level. De Wolfe raised preflop and Boatman reraised all in from the button. The action folded back to De Wolfe who called the all in bet for not much more. Boatman showed A
9
and De Wolfe had called with J
9
. The board came Q
10
6
A
K
and De Wolfe eliminated Boatman when he rivered the straight.
J.C. Tran continues his run for
CardPlayer Player of the Year in this tournmant and is collecting chips like always. With five limpers into the pot, including Tran, the flop came 9
7
3
. The player in seat seven bet out $400 and Tran was the only caller. The turn was the 7
and both players in the hand check. The river is the 2
and the player in seat seven checked. Tran bet out $1,000 and his opponent called. Tran showed 7
5
and his opponent simply mucked.
The limit portion of this level began with $300-$600 blinds and the rate of play slowed considerably as players eased into the calm pace of limit hold 'em.
