$10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha - Level Seven - Grinder's Gamble Works
Jun 29, '08
Blinds: 400-800
Players Remaining: 153 of 381
Average Chip Stack: 49,800
Hands and Storylines:
Grinder doesn't disappoint, quadruples up instead
With three players already all in, action went back around to Michael Mizrachi. He seemed to want to fold, but then Eric Liu said "I'll be disappointed if you fold." So he called and the four players turned up the following hands.
Small Blind: AAQ6
Big Blind: AAK2
Early Position: QQKJ
Mizrachi: KQT8
Board: 75549
The player with aces and the diamond flush draw thought he was freerolling, but instead Mizrachi caught running spades for a flush and ended up with 46,000 chips.
Vaswani doubles up with bigger boat on river
With the board K-K-2-J, Ram Vaswani moved all in with K-Q-J-J and was called by A-K-J-T. A chop was highly likely, but then a queen came on the river and Vaswani took the pot with the better full house. After the hand he had roughly 35,000 chips.
Amit doubles with flush on river
In a blind vs. blind battle, Rafi Amit called a raise from the big blind and the two players saw a QT2 flop. Amit quickly moved all in and the big blind called instantly with TTA8. "Nice hand, but I have outs," Amit said as he flipped over T2J8 and needed a nine or diamond to win. The river was the A, but the 3 came on the river. After the hand, Amit let his opponent have it, calling his preflop raise a hold'em play.
Dwan's tricky play gets him extra chips
After a flop of 974, Tom Dwan bet 1,100, a small bet in relation to the size of the pot. One player folded and then John Duthie raised to 5,000. Dwan quickly moved all in for another 10,000 or so and Duthie folded even more quickly. As he collected his chips, which were now at 28,000, Kido Pham said the word "tricky" a few times. Dwan shrugged and replied, "I try."

Billirakis showed 1010 for a flopped set of tens. Seat 1 showed JJ for a flopped set of jacks. But seat 6 showed A4 for the flopped nut flush. The turn and river didn't change things and Billirakis was eliminated, seat 1 was crippled and seat 6 nearly trippled up.
Amit Busts Hellmuth
With Phil Hellmuth already all in, Rafi Amit bet out on a K55 flop and the third player in the hand let his hand go. Hellmuth showed J1097 and was in bad shape against Amit's KJ109. The turn 3 and river 10 didn't improve Hellmuth and he headed to the rail.
Big Stack Collision
On a board of AQ310 a large-stacked Ryan Daut bet 5,200 only to have another large stack in David Williams make it 21,600. Daut mucked his hand and Williams took a large pot. Talk about a tough table- it contains David Williams, Ryan Daut, Dario Minieri, Bill Gazes, David Chiu and Nenad Medic.

His opponent held AA82 for an overpair. The turn was the K and Singer was still drawing. The J on the river missed both of his draws and he doubled his opponent up to nearly 20,000.

Not The Ideal Start For Smith
Fifteen minutes into the first level Gavin Smith raised to 500 and the player in seat 1 re-raised the pot, 1,650 more. The player in seat 4 and Smith both made the call. When the flop came J72 Smith bet the pot - 6,450 and got all in with the player in seat 1 while seat 4 folded. The turn was the A and the river was the 8. Smith showed A-J-10-2 for top two pair, but he lost the pot to seat 1's big hand- A-A-K-Q, giving him a set of aces. Immediately after the hand, Smith tossed in his chip for a 10,000 add-on and was back in business. Each player gets one 10,000 add-on if they so choose in the first three levels of the tournament.
Defending Champ Misses
On a board of 9863, defending World Championship PLO champion Robert Mizrachi's opponent bet out 1,025 and Mizrachi made the call. Both players checked the 5 river and Mizrachi shook his head to signify he missed his draws and had no hand. His opponent showed two of his four cards - 88 for a set, and scooped the early pot.
The Shulman Family
On a board reading 1010610, Jeff "Happy" Shulman took a stab at the pot with a bet of 500. His opponent in seat 8 raised it up to 2,500 total. Shulman mucked his hand and he was off to a slow start. However, he took a nice pot later in the level to get his stack around 14,000.
A few tables over, Barry Shulman was involved in a pot. The player in seat 3 raised to 275 preflop. Shulman made the call from the button and Bill Chen called from the small blind. The flop came 865 and everyone checked. The turn came with the A and action was checked to Shulman. He fired 1,000 into the pot and his opponents ran for the hills. Shulman took the pot and improved his stack to about 13,000.
Amit With the Early Power Move
On a flop that came 654, Rafi Amit checked to his opponent in seat 5. He bet 425 and Amit pounced on him, raising 1,300 more to 1,725. His opponent quickly mucked and Amit added some chips to his stack in the early going as he was around 15,000.
Farha Wins Massive Pot
Spoiler: Sam Farha likes to gamble. On a board of 872, Sam Farha pushed his remaining 5,000 or so chips in and was called by one opponent. His opponent showed A-A-10-2 for an overpair of aces and Farha showed Q-9-8-6 for an open-ended straight draw. The turn was the 4 and the river was the 5, completing Farha's straight to give him a big pot early.
Double Duty
Although both have made it to the final table of the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E event, Erick Lindgren and Barry Greenstein are also playing in the World Championship PLO event.

Big Hands:
Amit Eliminates Smith
With just a few minutes elapsed in Level 9, a flop of 1084 saw three players get all their money in:
Gavin Smith was holding top set with J81010
Kiril Gerasimov, the shortest stack of the three players, had AK54 for the nut flush draw
Rafi Amit, who had both players covered, held J1098 for an open ended straight draw, in addition to an irrelevant top two pair.
With more than 400,000 chips in the middle combined, Smith saw a chilling turn card: The Q. made Gerasimov the flush and Amit the straight, and while Smith was still drawing live against his two opponents--any queen, eight or four--the K on the river failed to improved Smith's hand. Smith looked sick as he rose from the table and headed for the exit; meanwhile, Gerasimov raked a pot worth about 150,000, while Amit took a side pot of about 270,000.
Walrus Slips From Bank, Falls Into River
Thomas Wahlroos didn't believe Michael McKenna, who had been pushing the action from the beginning of the hand. He was dead right--but a nasty river card made McKenna the winning hand anyway. McKenna, who had raised before the flop, but 6,500 on a flop of K76 and drew two callers, Wahlroos included. The 9 fell on the turn and McKenna continued, making a near pot-sized bet of 22,500. Again, Wahlroos called. The river brought a seemingly benign 3; again Wahlroos checked, again McKenna bet, 45,000 this time. Wahlroos made the call, and McKenna showed Q453 for the rivered straight.
A few hands later, Wahlroos lost more chips, this time against David Williams. After Wahlroos led out on a board of 1043, Williams moved all in and Wahlroos called, leaving him with about 25,000 behind. Williams showed 657 for a wrap draw; Wahlroos revealed AQ1010 for top set. The turn bricked, but the 2 made Williams hand.
Hachem Gone
A four-way pot involving Joe Hachem, Phil Hellmuth, Josh Arieh, and Cole South: after Hellmuth and Arieh limped, South raised the pot to 8,000 on the button, and Arieh on the big blind, Hellmuth and Hachem all called. The flop brought the K43 and the action was checked to South, who obliged by firing out a pot-sized bet of 32,000. Arieh called, Hellmuth folded, and Hachem raised all in for 13,500 more. Both players called. The turn was the 3: Arieh checked, South moved all in, and Arieh folded. South had Hachem dominated with two kings for a kings full house, but incredible Hachem was drawing live, as he held the A2 for nut flush with a straight flush draw. "I need the five of diamonds," said Hachem, and the dealer burned and turned a five--of spades! Hachem was eliminated, while South won a very nice pot.

Eliminations: Rafi Amit, Kathy Liebert, Scotty Nguyen, Alex Jacob
Big Hands:
Amit Here to Help Liebert, Then Becomes Bubble Boy
Rafi Amit min-raised to 2,000 before the flop. The action folded around to Kathy Liebert in the big blind. She made the call and the two players saw a flop of A23. Liebert checked and Amit fired another shot of 2,000 into the pot. Liebert looked at her cards, to which Amit joked, "Show me your cards and I'll tell you what you have." Liebert showed two cards to the player on her right. They were the 62. She then showed her other two cards, QQ, and mucked. Amit was thrilled, but was still only around 10,000 in chips. Those chips would soon be gone.
With the board showing A86, Amit bet 4,000 and then screamed, "I am the bubble boy!" Eugene Todd was in the hand and as he thought about the call, Amit told the dealer how the hand would play out. He said that Todd would think about his hand for 10 seconds and then call. Amit was half right, Todd thought about it for almost 10 seconds and then raised enough to put Amit all in. Amit called and the hands were the following.
Amit: A574
Todd: A793
Both players had top pair with an open ended straight draw. The turn was the 3, adding a flush draw for Todd. The river was the 5 and both players made their straights, but Todd's was bigger as Amit acknowledged and he was out in 73rd place, better known as the bubble boy.
The Queen Of Diamonds
With Selbst in the big blind, four players called 1,000 and the option was to Selbst. She min-raised to 2,000 and everyone jumped into the pool with her. The flop was AQ9 and Selbst led out with a bet of 8,000. Every player folded quickly and Selbst was nice enough to show her hand to everyone. She had A10JK for a flopped straight. "The queen of diamonds," one player referred to Selbst because of all the diamonds she held. She also held the chip lead with 128,000 in chips.
Morgan Rising
On a board showing J92, Jordan Morgan bet 2,500 and his opponents mucked. After the hand, Morgan was around 55,000 in chips, good enough to be in the top 10 of the leaderboard.

The official number of entrants has been announced at 6,358, which has created a first-place prize pool of $8.25 million. The final five players will all walk away with at least a cool million, while every player at the final table will make over half a million for their time. Not a bad paycheck for two weeks, in any line of work. Click on the payout structure link to view the full list of payouts.
New World Champion
Jamie Gold has been eliminated, ensuring that we will have a new world champion. His elimination was announced over the loud speaker to a round of applause.
The Razor Makes A Sharp Fold
In a three way limped pot on a flop of K K 10 , John Phan bet out $600. Both players called, and all three players checked the A on the turn. The river was the 6 , and Phan bet out $4,000. The under the gun limper made it $10,000 total and was quickly called by the other limper. Phan thought for awhile before standing his cards up behind his chips so that all the media could see his dilemma. Phan was showing Q-J for the Broadway straight and was facing a raise of only $6,000. Eventually, he folded it face up and the under the gun player showed pocket Aces for Aces full. The overcaller showed Q-J as well, for the same hand Phan folded. This was clearly not your typical limped pot.
Tuan Takes a Hit on a Laydown
Tuan Le made it $1,200 to go from early position with a flop of K K 9 on the board. One opponent called from middle position, while two others folded. The turn brought the 3 and Tuan fired out $1,500. His opponent reraised all in and Tuan mucked his hand, only after a momentary pause of pondering suspicion.
Amit Eliminated
Rafi Amit found a nemesis at his table this level, though the personable Amit would probably never put it that way. In the three major pots that Amit got involved in, the player two to his left came out on top each time. First Amit doubled him up, getting all the money in preflop with 8 8 against his opponents A 10 . The flop brought the 9 4 2 , keeping Amit in the lead. The turn changed all that, bringing the 10 and giving his opponent the lead. The river brought Amit's opponent another pair with the A . Amit joked, "What a sick river, this is unbelievable." Amit lost another sizable pot when he and his foil both made top pair, but his opponents bigger kicker gave him the win. Finally, a short stacked Amit got it in with K 7 , only to have his nemesis raise $7,000 on top to isolate. All other players folded and he revealed J J . The board came Q Q Q 8 8 , and though both players had a full house, his opponent's queens full of jacks sent Amit to the rail. Apparently happy to be done with the grueling series, Amit smiled and said, "Time to celebrate."
Level four has come to an end, and all remaining players are currently on a twenty minute break. When they return for level five blinds will increase to $300-$600 with a $75 ante. There are currently 1070 players remaining at 107 tables.

Three hands into the current level Andy Bloch was virtually all in in the big blind. He kept his final $5,000 behind "just in case its capped before it gets to me." As the cards were dealt Rafi Amit asked why he wouldn't still throw in his last few chips in that hypothetical situation. Bloch repsonded by asking, "What cards could possibly be left in the deck at that point?"
It would be Amit who would take Bloch out on the hand as well. Amit raised from the button, and Bloch called for his last few chips. Amit took one card, while Bloch drew four. Amit then drew one again, and Bloch was ecstatic to be only drawing one at this point as well. Amit then stood pat for the last draw, and when Bloch took one, Amit showed him a 10-9. Bloch turned over the 7-6-4-2, but drew a Jack on the last card. Bloch was eliminated in 7th place earning $19,489
Here are the final six players for tomorrow's final table:

War of Attrition
Jun 30, '07
Remarkably no one has gone bust in the last hour and we are still searching for our official final table bubble boy. Currently the players are on a 15 minute break. They were given the option of playing through the break, but took the break at one player's request
Andy Bloch has been extremely card-dead and is on life support with only $20,000 in chips. When play resumes he will have less than one big bet. Mark Bartlog was able to double his own short stack courtesy of chip leader Jon Shoreman making a 10-8 low after the second draw, and standing pat, but with $130,000 he will have just over 4 big bets when play resumes.
Both Rafi Amit and Anthony Lellouche have made it clear that they are more interested in being unrestricted for the $10,000 pot limit omaha event tomorrow, so they have been playing lots of hands, but Amit is currently second in chips.

Final Table Plus One

Rafi Amit was dealt a wheel to eliminate Ben Armstrong in 8th place. The final 7 players have now been combined into one table. Dealing seven players into a hand of triple draw creates the potential situation for the deck to be completely dealt out before the action in the hand is completed. Sometimes at this stage, each of the 7 players will take turns sitting out for an enitre orbit; however in this case all seven players will be dealt into the hands.
Here are the recent eliminations:
8. Ben Armstrong - $19,489
9. Danny Fuhs - $14,075
10. Ralph Rudd - $14,075
11. Dan Dumont - $8,662
Eugene Ji has shown remarkable resilience surviving several all ins to stay alive in the tournament. In one all in hand Mark Bartlog and he each drew one card on the final draw. They each flipped over the cards they kept. Ji was in the lead showing a 8-6-5-3 to Bartlog's 8-7-4-2. Amazingly they both drew an Ace, and Ji's A-8-6 was good enough to take the pot. Soon after Ji was down to the felt in a pot against Andy Bloch. Bloch checked to Ji after the second draw, and Ji took one, while Bloch took two. Bloch then led out before the third draw, and Ji called leaving only one more bet behind. Bloch then drew one while Ji stood pat. Ji bet his last chips, and Bloch folded showing he drew to a 6-5-4-2 on the last draw, unfortunately pairing his two.
Action will stop once the 7th place finisher is determined.

Lenny Martin raised to $80,000 and Rafi Amit reraised to $120,000 before the first draw. Martin called and drew three cards. Amit stood pat. He then led out for $40,000 after the first drawing round, and Martin called after taking three cards. Amit stood pat again on the second drawing round. He fired out $80,000 as Martin took three more cards. Martin then made an all-in call and both players stood pat for the third drawing round. The players flipped up their hands and Amit showed a 7-6-4-3-2 low, while Martin mustered an 8-7 low. It was not enough to survive, and he finished in second place, good for $128,120 in prize money. That made Rafi the 2007 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball champion, he took home the gold bracelet, and a first-place prize of $227,005.

Heads Up - Hour One
Jul 01, '07
The Price of Poker has Gone Up
After a period of very little action the blinds went up to $20,000-$40,000, with $40,000-$80,000 limits.
Rafi Draws First Blood
Rafi Amit took down the first large pot of the heads-up match with a 9-8-7-6-3. Martin mucked his cards on the hand. Amit grew his stack to $1,100,000 after the hand. This gave him a better than 2-to-1 chip advantage over Martin’s $420,000.
Table Chatter
Rafi Amit and Lenny Martin have partaken in some of the most entertaining final table conversing of the Series. Their musings have ranged from how Amit’s stack is doing in the pot-limit Omaha event, to Martin attempting to guilt-trip Amit into dumping him the bracelet. Martin’s most interesting attempt at this was to reference the number of media employee’s that had to work into the night to cover the final table as pressure to end things quickly. Amit laughed that one off and then began chatting with the tournament director between hands.
Martin Doubled Up
Lenny Martin raised to $80,000 after the second drawing round and Rafi Amit raised to $160,000. Martin made the all-in call for his last $150,000. Amit stood pat on the third drawing round, while Martin drew one last card. He received it and flipped up 8-7-6-5-2. Amit turned up J-6-4-3-2 and Martin doubled up. He now had $520,000 to Amit’s cool million.
Rafi Strikes Again
Rafi Amit picked up another moderate-sized pot when he showed down 9-7-6-5-2, after a flurry of betting during the drawing rounds. Martin mucked his hand and was once again dangerously low in chips.
Martin’s Daily Double
Lenny Martin was all in once again. This time, he pushed his last $70,000 in the middle after the second drawing round to call an $80,000 raise from Rafi Amit. Martin then drew one last card, while Amit stood pat. Martin then flipped over 8-7-6-4-2, and Amit showed 9-7-6-5-3. Martin doubled up again as he continued to dance all over the line of survival.
“All you need is Love”
Lenny Martin had now started singing “All you need is love” for a couple of riffs of the famous Beatles song, in reference to the words that adorn Rafi Amit’s shirt.

Hour Three
Jul 01, '07
What Are The Odds?
Rafi Amit was all in against Lenny Martin and Martin revealed 8-5-4-3-2. Amit then turned over 8-5-4-3-2 and survived the hand by picking up the chopped pot.
Anthony Lellouche Eliminated in Third Place ($84,612)
Rafi Amit raised and Anthony Lellouche reraised all in. Amit then drew one card on every single drawing round. Lellouche drew two cards on rounds one and two, and a single card on the third round. Amit then turned up an 8-7-6-4-3, while Lellouche held a Q-6-5-4-2. Lellouche was eliminated in third place, and he will take home $84,612 in prize money.
Heads Up!
Lenny Martin: $895,000
Rafi Amit: $555,000
Break in the Action
There was another 15-minute break in the action, during which Rafi ran over to play a round of pot-limit Omaha through his big blind.

From Low Stack to Respectability
Anthony Lellouche was on the short stack after the elimination of Eugene Ji. He then tripled up to survive, and a few hands later he doubled up to put him back in the ball game. On the double-up hand he showed a seven-low to defeat the nine-low of Jon Shoremen. Shoreman was the new low stack after the hand with $175,000. Lellouche now held $375,000.
Jon Shoreman Eliminated in Fourth Place ($57,383)
Jon Shoreman was now all in for his tournament life in a pot against Lenny Martin. Shoreman was all in before the first drawing round where he took two cards. Martin also drew two, and he did the same on the second round. Shoreman drew one card on the second round. Both players drew one card on the last round and then Martin showed an 8-6 low. Shoreman turned over an 8-7 low and he was eliminated from the tournament in fourth place. Shoreman took home $57,383 in prize money.
Leader Board
Here is how the chip counts looked after a dozen hands of action following the bustout of Shoreman:
Lenny Martin: $1,000,000
Rafi Amit: $395,000
Anthony Lellouche: $220,000
Poker Face
Rafi Amit was all in on one hand and Lenny Martin went into the tank. For someone who was all in at that point, Amit had a constant smirk across his face. It may have induced Martin to call. Amit turned up an eight-low to survive, while Martin could only muster an ace-low.
Break Time
The players then went on a 15 minute break, and Amit ran over to the $10,000 pot-limit Omaha world championship to play a few hands, in between his quest for a second bracelet at this triple draw event.
Break Add-On
The players have decided to add an additional 20 minutes to their current break.
