Bertrand Grospellier is from France, but has been living in Korea since 2001. He moved there to become a professional gamer and is one of the top ranked Starcraft players in the country. When he discovered poker, he could only play online, as there were no places to play live in Korea. Grospellier attests that his computer game talent is a big part of why he was so successful playing poker online.
After switching to playing poker professionally a few years ago, Grospellier began playing more live tournaments. He has played at the World Series of Poker and most of the European Poker Tour events in the last few years. At the 2006 EPT Scandinavian Open, Grospellier placed second for almost $400,000. Second is nice, but it is always huge for professionals to win and own a title. He got his chance at the 2008 EPT PokerStars.net Caribbean Adventure main event. He outlasted the entire field of 1,136 players to win the first-place prize of $2 million. Then, later in the year, Grospellier topped a stacked field at the Bellagio's Festa al Lago for an additional $1.4 million. His success put him in a great position to win Player of the Year honors. He returned to the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure the next year to take down the High-Rollers event and $434,000.
