Level 3 Update: Into the Dinner BreakAug 20, '10 NOTE: The players will go to dinner break after the first 30 minutes of level 4. Dinner will begin at 6:40 p.m. and last for 60 minutes. Play will begin again at 7:40 p.m. Blinds: 100-200 Players Remaining: 147 out of 186 Notable Chip Counts: 1. Soi Nguyen — 100,000 Average Chip Count: 31,632 Notable Eliminations: Bruce Buffer Chip Movers and Shakers Marco Johnson made the largest gain during the last level, growing his stack to 62,000 to join the top 10. Soi Nguyen, Tim Phan, and Ali Eslami all held strong as chip leaders and each holds 70,000 or more. Nguyen is the only player with 100,000 as the overall chip leader. Raymond Dolan and Chris Moore each joined the top 10 with more than 50,000. Big Hands: Suer Skewered There was a controversy that broke during the last break concerning a hand where the board read J54Q8. All four players involved had checked the hand down to the river. After the river card it was checked to a player in late position who bet. Two players mucked and Bobby Suer had yet to act. That did not stop the dealer from grabbing the pot and delivering it to the player in late position and then mixing all the cards into the deck. Some players said that Suer had taken too long to act, but he held strongly to the fact that he should be awarded the whole pot because he was the only player still in it with live cards. A floor person came over and after concluding that it was impossible to reconstruct the hand he decided that the player in late position and Suer would split the pot. Suer held 8-7 in the hole. Lauren Kling vs. Jimmy Tran There was a board of AJ9Q3 sitting on the table and 13,000 was in the pot when Jimmy Tran moved all in for 10,900. Lauren Kling went into the tank, and after a short chat with Tran she decided to fold. Kling held 18,000 after the hand while Tran grew his stack to 25,000. Jason DeWitt Doubles up but Eliminated Later On a board of 10856 the small blind checked, the big blind bet 675 and Jason DeWitt raised all in for 5,275. The small blind mucked and the big blind made the call after spending some time in the tank. Their cards: DeWitt: 97 River: K DeWitt doubled up on the hand to 13,000 thanks to the straight but he wasn’t able to survive through level 3, busting out of the tournament. Level 19 Hour Two Update: Jamin Stokes and Hoyt Corkins EliminatedJul 14, '10 Blinds: 5,000-10,000 with a 1,000 ante 1. Matt Affleck – 2,900,000 Jamin Stokes William Thorson Wins a Big One from Josh Brikis We caught up with the action on a board reading Q546. William Thorson checked from one of the blinds. The next player to act checked as well. It was on Josh Brikis next and he bet 45,000. William Thorson check-raised to 125,000 and it was folded to Brikis. Brikis called and the A fell on the river. Thorson bet 300,000 and Brikis thought about it briefly before calling. Thorson exposed the A9 for the nuts and Brikis mucked. Thorson was at about 1,800,000 after the hand. Jamin Stokes Eliminated Jamin Stokes moved all in on the button for 44,000 with the A5 and was called by a player in the blind. His opponent tabled the QJ. The board ran out Q6422 and Stokes was gone. Robert Mizrachi Doubles Up a Player A player moved all in for 139,000 into Robert Mizrachi. Mizrachi called and exposed the AJ and was ahead of the K9 of his opponent. The board ran out K87Q8 and Mizrachi lost the pot. He was down to 875,000 after the hand. Rice Isn’t Happy with Eskander Shawn Rice raised to 25,000 and Pkejmanpatric Eskander called from the small blind. The flop came K85 and Eskander checked over to Rice, who bet 35,000. Eskander made the call and they go to the turn. The turn was the J and both players checked. The river was the Q and both players checked again. Rice turned over 99 and Eskander rolled over the AJ, giving him a pair of jacks. “You called me with ace-jack. You did the right thing.” said Rice sarcastically. “It was suited,” replied Eskander. Affleck Just Keeps Winning The board read K64Q and it was heads-up between Hugo Franca and Matt Affleck. Franca had check-raised Affleck on the flop and Affleck made the call. Franca checked to Affleck on the turn and Affleck bet 100,000. Franca check-raised again, making it 260,000. Affleck made the call and they saw the J fall on the river. Franca tanked for a while before going all-in for 486,000. After several minutes, Affleck made the call. Franca mucked his hand immediately and Affleck showed AK, for top pair top kicker. Affleck is now over the 3 million chip mark. Jonathan Tamayo Eliminated Jonathan Tamayo made a deep run in last year’s main event, but won’t be making a repeat performance when he moved all-in from middle position for 110,000 and Paul Varano called from the big blind. Tamayo showed A6 and Varano showed A10. The board ran out J9542 and Tamayo busted out while Varano moved up to 295,000. Cowboy Rides Off into Sunset Hoyt Corkins moved all-in preflop with AK and ran into the pocket aces of Pavel Milaov. The board ran out 10J637 and Corkins’s Main Event is over. One Less Russian in the Main Event Dragan Galic was all-in before the flop and was called by Vitaly Lunkin, who had him covered by just one yellow, 1,000 chip. Galic showed AK and Lunkin showed 1010. The flop was A8J and Galic was out in the lead. The turn was the A and the river was the 2, giving Galic the winner to double up to 680,000. Lunkin was all-in for just the ante on the very next hand and was eliminated. Jason Dewitt Doubles Up a Player On a previous hand Jason Dewitt had six-bet all in versus the player directly to his left. A couples hands later Dewitt four-bet shoved with pocket eights against the same player. This time he was called. Dewitt’s opponent exposed the AQ and the players were flipping. The flop and turn were safe but an ace on the river sent Dewitt down to 340,000. Josh Brikis Falling On a board of KJ846, Josh Brikis checked from under the gun. His opponent in late position bet 117,000 and Brikis went into the tank. He eventually called and his opponent tabled pocket queens with no club. Brikis mucked and was under a million after the hand. Big Slick Gets Clements Some Chips Andre Coimbra moved all-in preflop and found some bad news when he was called by Scott Clements. Clements held AK and dominated Coimbra’s A10. The board came 49834 and Coimbra’s tournament came to an end, while Clements now has 1,200,000.
