Level Four Update: Celebrities Cruising at WSOPJul 09, '11 Note: Levels are two hours in length and the players began with 30,000 in chips. Players On Day 1C: 1,300 of 2,181 Blinds: 150-300 with a 25 ante Top Ten Notable Chip Counts: 1. Adam Junglen — 95,000 Notables Eliminated: Chad Brown, Pieter de Korver, Davidi Kitai, David Benyamine Hands: Well, That’s A Cooler On a board reading Q 3 2 9 4, Greg Brooks and an opponent found themselves in a raising war on the river. Brooks pondered making a final move for the rest of his stack, but eventually settled on a call, showing A 5 for the wheel. It’s a good thing he didn’t raise, because his opponent showed 5 6 for the nut straight. Brooks is now in a little bit of trouble, sitting with just under 12,000 in chips. Paul Pierce Is Fierce Don’t look now, but NBA superstar Paul Pierce is currently sitting on just over 90,000 in chips, having tripled his starting stack. Pierce hasn’t been shy in his first WSOP main event appearance, betting and raising without hesitation just like many of the veterans here today. Brad Garrett Playing Like A Pro Brad Garrett called a raise in between two players and saw a flop of J J 9. A player bet 6,000 and both Garrett and the button made the call. The turn was the 4 and everyone checked. The river was the 2 and once again everyone checked. Garrett tabled pocket kings and they were good enough to take the pot worth nearly 30,000. He now sits with 67,000 in chips. Phil Hellmuth Going In The Wrong Direction Phil Hellmuth is now down to 8,000 after flopping a flush. His opponent held middle pair, turned trips and then rivered his kicker to fill up, sending Hellmuth spiraling from his original stack of 30,000. A Short Double For Traniello After a raise from the under the gun player to 1,000, another player called and Marco Traniello squeezed all in for his last 4,375 from middle position. The button called and the other two players folded. Traniello showed pocket jacks and they held against his opponent’s A Q when the board rolled out 8 7 4 3 2. Traniello now has just over 11,000, but at least he’s no longer in desperation mode. Featured Poker Tweet — Alex Kamberis Paul Pierce Takes a Pot The board read A 7 2 4 10 when one player bet 1,300 before NBA player Paul Pierce. The 3 hit the turn and both blinds checked once again. Mortensen quickly fired out a bet of 2,500 which was again quickly called by both blinds. The 3 fell on the river and Mortensen once again found action checked to him. Jim Bechtel Wins Another Jim Bechtel checked on a board of 532 to his opponent on the button. The button threw out a bet of 7,000 and Bechtel called. The 3 hit the turn and the action went check-check. The K fell on the river and Bechtel checked for a third time. He went back and forth on his decision for a few minutes while a wall of people surrounded the table to watch his antics. He eventually made the all-in call and flipped over QJ. His opponent turned up Q9 amnd Garrett was eliminated from the tournament. Left in the Deck Before he was eliminated from the tournament Brad Garrett was making quite an impression during the evening’s play. The ESPN cameras were eating it up, and Garrett was able to produce a consistent line of chuckles from the players who were along for the ride with him at his table, including former world champion Berry Johnston. At one point, Garrett exclaimed, “Change the rhythm, everybody stand,” and his table played a hand standing up just to mix things up. His table is much quieter now and the ESPN cameras are no longer around after his absence. Everyone else at the table mucked and Matusow tabled the KQ but was up against the worst possible hand, the pocket kings of his opponent. The board bricked out for Matusow and he was sent to the rail a year after a deep run in the 2008 main event. Jim Bechtel Doubles Up Jim Bechtel saw a disaster flop of J107 and got all his money in. The board ran out 653Q8 and Garrett eliminated his opponent, building his stack to 78,000. Mueller threw out a bet of 10,000 and the small blind folded. Mueller exposed the 89 for nine-high while the all-in player exposed the A10 for ace-high and the lead. The flop came down J1010 and Corkins was actually a favorite to double up. The turn was the 4, dropping those percentages a bit and the J on the river put the final nail in the coffin, sending Corkins out of the main event. Keven Stammen Knocks One Out After a flop of K96, 2009 bracelet winner Keven Stammen was facing a bet from his opponent. He raised all in and was called. Stammen turned over Q10 for a gutshot straight draw along with a backdoor flush draw. His opponent showed K5 for top pair and the lead. The turn changed all that when the J made Stammen’s straight. The river was the K, giving his opponent useless trips and Stammen was over 100,000 with the win. Rahman was up to 325,000. King Nothing Jimmy Fricke called his opponent’s all in bet of 11,000. The opponent showed A10 and Fricke tabled KK. Garrett was the only caller and the K came on the turn. The small blind fired 6,000 and Garrett mucked. The small blind then showed 54 for just a flush draw and Garrett was down to 43,000. We Are Family Kara Scott limped in preflop for 600 and everyone else at her table did the same. This put more than 5,000 in the pot before the flop. It then came down A55. The Night Shift - Round TwoJul 06, '07 BreakThe players are on a 20 minute break. Controversy Before the Break One player raised from the 6 seat in middle position to $1,200. The dealer announced his raise but then for some reason just reached over and mucked his cards. She began to apologize almost immediately as the player angrily called the floor over. The tournament director, as she had done all series, ruled that the player's action must stand, but that he would be returned his raise, only having to contribute $400 to the pot. This ruling did not satisfy him, mainly because he claimed to have had pocket Kings. He continued to protest for all of his bet, but the ruling stood. Eventually, he agreed that the ruling was correct, but that it was still a terrible solution to what is basically, human error. Each player is responsible for protecting their cards, and once they hit the muck they are dead, regardless of who put them there. Usually this situation happens to the players in the one or ten seat, as they are located right next to the dealer. It is unusual for this to happen to players located across the table. The player who won the pot on a Jack high board declined to comment whether or not the Kings would have been good, so it is unknown if the dealer accidentally saved the gentleman any chips or not. Soulier Sends Opponent To The Rail On a board of Q 6 5 9 Q Fabrice Soulier pushed the last of his chips into the pot. His opponent instantly began to shake his head in disgust, obviously angered by a club and board pair on the river. He eventually called with the 87, which was the nut straight on the turn. Soulier revealed the A 3, for the nut flush, taking down the pot and sending his opponent to the rail. Eliminations Allen Kessler Mike Mizrachi and Steve Paul-Ambrose were eliminated during this past hour. Not Everybody Loves Raymond A player in seat three limps and Ray Romano raises to $2,600. A team Pokerstars member reraiseson the button to $7,000 and seat three makes the call. Romano says. "lets get this over with." and shoves his remaining money into the pot, raising $1,275 more. Both the button and seat three call and the flop comes J54. Seat three checks and seat eight bets $16,000. Seat three (who looks an awful lot like Doctor Dre) tanks then finally mucks. The button shows AA, and has Romano in trouble with KQ. The turn is the K giving Romano some life, but the river brings the 8 and he is eliminated. As he stood up from the table he yelled, "Crazy Horse, Lets Go!" He then went over to Brad Garrett's table and caroused with him for a while before leaving. Notable Chip Counts
Player Tags: Allen Kessler, Michael Mizrachi, Fabrice Soulier, Brad Garrett, Ray Romano Dinner BreakJul 06, '07 The players have just gone on dinner break and will return at 9 p.m. to the start of Level 5 where the blinds will increase to $300-$600 with a $75 ante.
Elsewhere on the European front Andy Black had taken a hit and his stack had dropped to about $39,000 when he got heads up in a pot with the board reading Jd3d8c6s9s and scooped it when his Q-Q trumped his opponent’s A-J. He’s back up to about $55,000. Roy ‘The Boy’ Brindley is gone. He re-raised all-in as the shortstack with 2-2 and got called by A-K which hit. Thomas Wahlroos is grinding away with half his original stack. He took down a small pot with a raise when CardPlayer.com was passing, smiled while shrugging his shoulders and said, ‘I’m just fishing for chips.’ Michael Greco has $27,000 in chips, Irish Open winner Marty Smyth has $13,200, Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott has $8,400, Per Hildebrand has $20,100, Julian Gardiner has $71,000, Mickey Wernick has $26,000, John Magill has $45,000, Joe Beevers has $45,000 and Sigi Stockinger has around $40,000. While many of the pros seemed to fall early this year, others were just off to an early start. www.PokerStars.com ambassador, Victor Ramdin was having a tough time getting any action at his table, and for the last few hours he could take almost any pot with an uncontested raise. Almost any pot except for this one…On a board of 8 4 3 A 10, Ramdin fires $5,000 at the pot and gets looked-up by the player in seat no. 1. Ramdin shows 4 4 and takes down a massive pot with a set of fours which could explain the reason he has been getting so much respect today.
Player Tags: Dave Colclough, Johnny Chan, Brad Garrett Hour 5Jul 06, '07 Power of the Fro Alex Jacob found a quick way to bring his chipstack some needed help. On a board of 10s 7d 6s, the small blind bet $3,000, the player in seat 5 raised all in for about $5,000 more, and Jacob re-raised all in for about $4,000 on top of that. He first was cited for a string-raise by the dealer for not announcing all in, but it was realized the amount he pushed in was not enough to constitute a full raise, and his last chips were then committed. The original bettor made the call and Jacob was way ahead as he had drawn out on two overpairs with 7 7 against A A and Q Q. The turn and river were the J and the 10, and Jacob more than doubled up with a full house. Nothing’s Changed In a Year Eric Molina, who on his way to finishing 31st in the Main Event last year, was portrayed in the ESPN coverage as being the epitome of everything that is wrong with young poker player’s today, loud, brash, and cocky. Apparently not much has changed. Molina hasn’t been loud yet, but he has been a little cocky. Molina moved all in on the river with the board showing 6 3 2 J K, he had called his opponent’s $3,000 bet on the flop, min-raised his opponent’s $4,000 bet on the turn, and then pushed him out as he folded on the river. Molina then needled his prey showing the A 10 for the bluff. FBT Done Greg Mueller couldn’t find an answer for his table today.
