Andre Akkari wins Event #43 ($675,117)Jun 28, '11 Nachman Berlin Eliminated in 2nd Place ($419,173) Nachman Berlin had the chip lead going into Level 24 with 8.6 million to Andre Akkari’s 4.3 million, but quickly lost it after Akkari doubled through him with K K against A 10 early in the level. That hand put Akkari in the lead for the first time this evening with more than 10.6 million to Berlin’s 2.2 million. Shortly after being doubled through and left on the short stack, Nachman Berlin open-shoved the button before the flop for 1,920,000 and Andre Akkari called from the big blind. Berlin lead with A 8 against Akkari’s K J. The board came K Q 3 K 5, giving Akkari top pair on the flop and trips on the turn to win the pot. Nachman Berlin was eliminated in 2nd place ($419,173 ) while Andre Akkari won the gold bracelet for Event #43 and the $675,117 grand prize. The first two levels of the day went rather slowly and Berlin managed to keep a somewhat constant chip advantage of between 2 and 3:1 until about halfway through Level 33 when Akkari doubled up to nearly even in the following pot. Carmody continued to lose chips that level, ultimately surrendering the lead to Nachman Berlin as Level 27 rolled around. Berlin won a huge (1.2 million) pot off of Carmody in Level 27 with aces full of deuces, cementing the chip lead with 5 million to Carmody’s 3 million. Darren Woods – 500,000 Notable Eliminations: Steve Sung Big Hands: Mizrachi Busts Akkari Andre Akkari got into a raising war preflop with Michael Mizrachi and after four bets, Akkari got his last 33,000 in the middle preflop with AJ against Mizrachi’s pocket threes. Mizrachi flopped another three and left Akkari drawing dead by the turn card and Mizrachi is up to 395,000 in chips. Toto Leonidas Eliminated David Chiu check-raised Toto Leonidas on a flop of J94 and Leonidas made the call. The turn was the K and Chiu led, but was raised by Leonidas. Chiu quickly made it four bets and Leonidas called. The 7 was the river and Chiu had bet it dark. Leonidas folded and left himself with just 7,000. He was eliminated on the very next hand when he couldn’t survive his all in. Steve Sung Hits the Rail Christoph Kwon raised and was called by Steve Sung. The flop was 9510 and Sung let out and was raised by Kwon. Sung made the call and they saw the A fall on the turn. They got the rest of Kwon’s chips in on the turn and Kwon showed 1010 and had Sung’s AK drawing dead. This left Sung with just 9,000 and was eliminated on the next hand when he failed to survive his all-in. Kwon climbed to 110,000. The flop came down 973 and both players checked. The turn was the A and Kenney fired a bet of 4,400. Vengrin raised to 12,000 and Kenney took some time before repopping it to 27,000. Vengrin immediately folded and Kenney scooped yet another pot. The young pro is now up to 116,000 in chips. Maridu Hits the Rail Team PokerStars Pro Brazilian Maria “Maridu” Mayrinck was all in holding AQ against the pocket kings of Jason Lilly. The board never gave her any help and Mayrinck was eliminated from the tournament. Victor Ramdin Has Great Level Victor Ramdin was circling the drain during the last level with only 7,000 in chips, but a case of back to back big pocket pairs has him much better shape with 60,000. On the first hand, his pocket kings made a set. On the next hand, his pocket aces made the nut flush. Akkari Loses A Race Andre Akkari picked up pocket queens and made his final move for his last 13,000. His opponent looked him up with big slick and connected with the flop, sending the Brazilian to the rail. The official numbers and prize pool should be released shortly. Big Hands: Mark Newhouse Wins a Nice One On a board of K927 seat 2 checked UTG+1 and Mark Newhouse bet 1,250 from the small blind. Seat 2 made the call and the river fell 7. Seat 2 checked and Newhouse bet 5,600. Seat 2 raised to 11,500 and Newhouse went into the tank. He then reraised all in and seat 2 made the all-in call. Seat 2 slammed down pocket aces and Newhouse turned over K7 to win the hand with a full house and eliminate his opponent. Newhouse grew his stack to 69,925 after the hand and he is now among the chip leaders. Akkari Takes a Hit Team PokerStars pro Andre Akkari limped into a pot preflop under the gun along with two other players before Stephen Ladowsky checked in the big blind. Nelly Drops Low Rap star Nelly is now in the tournament room and he has created quiet a stir early in the day. In a recent hand, a flop of 986 sat on the table when Nelly bet 1,000. His opponent made the call and the turn fell Q. Nelly bet 2,000 and his opponent called. The river fell 5 and Nelly fired another 3,000 into the pot. His opponent made the call and Nelly revealed 98 for two pair. His opponent showed down 66 for a set and Nelly was knocked down to 15,500 after the hand. Rousso Dominates Early Team PokerStars pro Vanessa Rousso has been tearing it up to start day 1B and she is currently the chip leader. In a recent hand, Rousso got involved in a battle of bets and raises with two opponents that left was 14,000 in the middle preflop. The flop was dealt Q92 and the small blind bet 15,000. Rousso raised all in and the button made the all-in call for 35,000. The small blind made an all-in call as well.
