Level 1 Update
Jun 06, '07
Event 10, the $2,000 No-Limit Texas Hold’em tournament kicked off this morning with a special announcement from WSOP Commissioner, Jeffrey Pollack in which he introduced Don Cheadle to share some information on his co-sponsored “Ante Up for Africa” tournament with Annie Duke. After that brief announcement, play got under way and we have seen a fair share of big name pros and some even bigger stacks emerging from the field.
Bill Gazes got off to a rocky start when he found himself holding a full house against quad jacks. Gazes limps in the pot out of position and gets raised $200 by the player in Seat 1. Gazes calls and the flop comes JJ5. Both players check around to the turn which brings the 7. Gazes make sit $1,000 to go and Seat 1 just smooth calls his bet. The river brings the 8 and Gazes moves all-in. Seat 1 quickly calls and Gazes has him covered by $225. Gazes shows 77 for a full house while his opponent flips over JJ for quads. Gazes simply tells J.C. Tran, who was sitting to his right, “That was pretty scary when he got his money in there so fast.” A few hands later and Bill was eliminated by Tran when J.C. woke up with pocket aces against Gazes Q-J when Bill hit a queen on the flop and moved all-in.
Not all tough breaks for the pros in this event as Daniel Alaei is off to fantastic start this morning. In a three way pot, Alaei makes it $300 to go and gets two callers out of the cutoff and the small blind. The flop comes KK10 and it is checked around to the cutoff who bets $325. The small blind check-raises to $800 and Alaei just smooth calls while the cutoff folds. The turn brings the 3 and both players check around. The river brings the Q and the small blind checks to Alaei who takes the lead and bets $1,4000. The small blind calls and Alaei flips over K-10 for the full house. The small blind mucks his hand and Alaei rakes a nice pot.
